Has anyone come up against this, we fly out in 5 weeks and it was all supposed to be plain sailing folowing recruitment by NZ Police. We know have immigration saying they need more proof about our 17 and 18 year olds dependency on us.

18 year on jobseekers looking for work, have sent proof of this and empty bank account and that he lives at home with us and always has.

17 yr old proof that he has completed a one year colllege course in July and earns pocket money for 10 hours work a week in Argos and that he spends it all in about 4 days also that he lives with us.

We buy their clothes and top up etc but no proof of that we feed them heat them and transport them most of the time.

We have also had to make an appoiontment to get a solicitor to do a letter to declare they are single and childless.... more money and stress.

Anyone any ideas??

Thanks
Karen

Hi

We have a 17 year old (almost 18) and we have received a letter from the council saying he is on the electoral role and registered as living at our home address. I think you also may have told the council about your 17 year old too. I think they collect info on anyone over 16. Could something like that prove dependence. I think they collect details on who lives where for the council tax too.

Maybe a neighbour could write a letter saying that they live at home?

Not sure what else to suggest, but best of luck with it all.

Thought of a couple of other things:

Have either of them passed their driving test and are insured on your car insurance?

When you say that you transport them, is there anyone who could write a letter to say that you take them to and from any sports clubs, work, etc?

How about a P60 showing how much your 17 year old has earned over the last year.

Did you receive child benefit for your 17 year old while they were in college?

Sorry if you have already done all of this, but it's what comes to mind at the moment. :D

We sent in daughters bank statement which showed her student loan, sent confirmation from Uni that she was a student and letter from student loan company. No problem.

From the residence manual
R2.1.30 Definition of 'dependent child'
Immigration Regulations 1999 reg 20
For the purpose of inclusion in an application, and despite the definition in section 2 of the Immigration Act 1987, a child is dependent if he or she is:
a.
i aged 17 to 24, with no child(ren) of his or her own, and
ii single*, and
iii totally or substantially reliant on the principal applicant* and/or the principal applicant's* partner* for financial support, whether living with them or not

And also
c. When determining whether a child of 17 to 24 years of age is totally or substantially reliant on the principal applicant* and/or the principal applicant's* partner* for financial support, visa and immigration officers must consider the whole application, taking into account all relevant factors including:
 whether the child is in paid employment, whether this is full time or part time, and its duration;
 whether the child has any other independent means of financial support;
 whether the child is living with its parents or another family member, and the extent to which other support is provided;
 whether the

So this is what they are wanting you to prove, can't really suggest what proof that they will be happy with though.

If you believe that you have already provided all the above information they I would contact your CO again and go through this information and ask what else they need.
