So I submitted my EOI last week knowing that I wouldn't know the selection details until today, but that didn't stop me from logging in and checking at least twice a day - every day!

During lunch today at 1:05 I checked again - still nothing. Then 1:15 - still nothing. Finally at 1:40 my status had changed to selected.

I can't imagine how many more times I'm going to keep logging onto the NZIS website before it (hopefully) says decision successful.

It's just exhausting thinking about it!

So, since I got selected I've been faithfully checking the NZIS website every 2 hours during the day :roll (yah...i know...)

Today I was extremely busy at work and didn't get a chance to go online at all. Was so exhausted when I came home and remembered that I hadn't paid a visit to the website.

DECISION SUCCESSFUL! :D

I see you were selected on the same date as I was (but with a lot more points). Shouldn't be too long for you since you also have a job offer. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Did you manage to get your passport pictures done (despite the head size issue =p)?

TonnyTessa
8th September 2008, 10:53 PM
Yeah I hope I get an answer soon too, I am not so good at this waiting game.

Managed to fabricate some pictures of my own with a lot of patience and reprints. For some reason I kept on coming out with the complexion of a zombie with bright red cheeks, which looked funny, but don't think it would look very good on my passport. But I managed it in the end. Don't know if it is good enough. THe passport application procedure is a bit complicated, it goes through the Birmingham consulate, who get things to the embassy in London, who sent everything to the centrall passport office in the Netherlands and then back up the chain. It takes forever!

We were also selected same day (155 points no job offer). OH has been verbally told on phone we should get the ITA in the next few weeks, but I won't believe it till I see it.

NOthing for me either :( Being a rather impatient person, I phoned them today. It seems they are behind a bit. Although they should have given me an answer two days ago (got a job offer), they said I should know something by Tuesday or phone them back. Grrr, I am sooo bad at waiting.

BTW I used the cheap phone number, no problems with it (01344-716199, dial *9 straight away to avoid menu). Avoid the rip off number!

I could have kissed the postman! He brought the ITA :raebanana:yes

Then we had a chat about emigrating and moving in general. His wife wont move to the other side of town, let alone emigrate.

My OH is in Sweden on business ATM but he phoned at lunchtime and I told him the news.

Now I have to work out when to book the medicals for. I'm out of hte country between 26/9 and 5/10, we both have exams (different days) during the following week, then I am out of the country again from 11-25 October.

I'm desperately trying to get my waist below 88cm (can just about manage 88cm if I pull all my muscles in and pull the tape tight, that aint gonna work for the medical though :no ). Strict dieting and sessions with a personal trainer have reduced my hips, thighs, chest and arms but the belly is still with me :wah

Gotta make sure I don't gain anything while I'm away and book the medicals as soon as I get back, I guess.

Yay for you!!!

I think mine will come in the mail because I got a letter from NZIS last week to indicate that I'd been selected - even though I said email communication was preferred.

Hopefully the ITA will be waiting for me when I get home this evening.
But good to hear that things are falling in place for everyone. I'm off to get my NZ drivers licence now (purely for ID purposes; they don't accept my Canadian licence when I need to buy beer and I don't like having to carry my passport around with me everywhere)... and yes, I still get IDed!

Ya, that was really fast, probably thats because I applied as a single recipient? I just sent off my qualification for assessment 1 week ago. Till now, the status is still 'Waiting', I think this is going to delay my ITA submission quite a bit. My deadline is Jan 2009. Really hope that NZQA would reply soon.

By the way, I emailed the EOI officer the below question:
'Just like to check with you, in case my assessment result turn out to be lower than level 7, can I substitute 5 years of my working experience to qualify for the bonus points?'

This is her reply:
Regarding NZQA report, if you can not obtain report stating degree level 7, I do not suggest you to lodge application as you will not be award bonus points both qualification and work esxperience in AASS, that means EOI does not meet the selection criteria, we can not consider your work experience if your qualification does not meet requirement on LTSSL.

I'll really faint if my assessment result turn out to be lower than level 7.

Yikes. I'll be crossing fingers and toes for you. But why would you suspect your assessment level wouldn't be 7?

jojojo
12th September 2008, 08:52 PM
Because I completed my IT degree in 1.5 instead of 3 years with exemptions from my diploma in IT. So i have no idea if my result would come back as level 7 or not.
One of our fellow forumer, KelvinAng also had a Bsc in Computer Science (business major) from Open Uni i think and assessment came back as level 6. To me, that was really quite unexpected.

Do you have a job offer? That speeds up the process; they do job offers or current employment first and then the others (I think in order of points)

Nothing yesterday, so I was going to give them another ring this morning, but I thought I check before hand and there it was :) Next step medicals, police checks and the likes. I am scared that I don't have enough points to qualify to get into NZ.:wah I dont have a degree in anything, but I have 13 years experience in commercial printing and I am good at what I do. My wife does not have a degree either. If I go job searching while in the states online, they will not bother with me unless I am in NZ ready to work. IF I receive a job offer, how much time will the employers expect you to be ready to work on site? Do employers want a certificate to know that you are qualified for a certain job or not?

I am really nervous that I may not get to go.:uhoh A new life in New Zealand has been on my mind every second for the last 2 months!

Hey there,

Not sure how old you both are but perhaps you can do a Work Holiday Visa. An applicant cannot be any older than 30. You can check it out on the NZIS website. Or perhaps this might work as well.

http://www.bunac.org/usa/worknewzealand/default.aspx

Unfortunately, without a degree, you cannot claim those 13 years experience. It really stinks. My hubby has 15 years experience in IT but no degree. That is why I had to be the Principle Applicant because I have a degree which goes along with my work but I had 115 points. Not much but it was enough to get us Selected. Now we are in limbo.

It IS possible to get a job offer while being overseas. Plenty of folks on this forum have applied and succeeded. :) All you have to is try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, right?

Hang in there and there is definitely a way to get there. Chin up!:nice1

I just turned 36 last month but my wife is 34. My wife was a banker 6 months ago but she don't plan on returning to banking but is very good and has a great reputation here at what she done. She started her own private investigating buisness 6 months ago and is doing that part time until she can do it full time. She does have a license for it thankfully, but I assume that she has to do it for a few years before she is considered and I don't know if it is a job that NZ is short of.

I think she has certain certificates at work but don't know if NZ will honor them or not. Would love to visit and apply, but don't know about a timeframe that the employers will sit on an application.

My daughter is 50/50 on moving to NZ. I told her is is a chance to start a new life and appreciate what is there in NZ. Today, I told her that we might not be able to go due to me not having a degre at what I do and she said that I just need to try to get a job when we visit. I asked her if she wanted me to pursue it any farther or just let it be and she said to go for it. Then I asked her, "Does this mean that you want to move to NZ?" And she said, "Yea, I want to start a new life and try something different.":D

Big step for her and drives me to pursue it further!

The only delay still waiting to happen is the imminent arrival of my first niece/nephew.
