Well that got your attention. Was just interested how some of you brought your costs down for the big move. We leave for NZ Feb '09 and were struggling with costs etc. This whole move is expensive (remind us to have a talk with our sane sides if we decide to do this again...NOOO), anyway we have saved costs by car boot sales, ebaying the normal stuff. The biggest one for us has been moving in with inlaws...gulp...6 months of that....with cost of gas, elec, council tax, mortgage (oh can't sell so rent out), this has allowed for savings to be made...... :D

We've just got back from car boot - only made 50 quid but better than nothing I suppose!

The biggest cost saving for us was that OH's employers paid our air fares, accommodation on arrival for two weeks and shipping our goods. And it is not unusual to get this in lots of sectors depending on the employer - obviously you need to secure a job before you go. This meant a huge saving for us.

The only downside is you are tied in to your employer - OH is tied for two years but can leave before that if he wants just has to pay a pro-rated amount back. He felt it was worth the risk though.

Not sure what situation you are in but worth considering.
