Hello all :)

I came across this informative site and thought I'd have a mooch around.

We have thought about moving abroad for a long time now and with the progressive state of things here in the UK, i.e., the expense, current job market, and the weather, we really want to move away from here.

My first choice has always been Florida in the US, but it is so hard to get in to the USA. Hubby and I love Florida and married there in 1988 and have returned time and again over the years. I suppose I'm more for Florida than hubby if I'm honest!

I recently qualified as an Occupational Therapist but finding it difficult to get a job as one here in the South West of UK. I'm currently working in an equal job though OT is not in the title, but the role does utilise OT skills but it's not where I want to be.

We undertook an on-line points (Skilled Migrants) application and got a total of 195,which seems a pretty good start. We need to sort out a couple things here in the UK before seriously considering a move to NZ.

I must say that I came across another forum that was very negative about NZ, but I think it was trying to put people off emigrating to NZ!

Out of interest, is there any other OT's out there who have moved to NZ?

Cheers.
Sunshine :)

First... welcome!

Not Florida! Anywhere BUT Florida!! The way things have been here lately I think Mother Nature is trying to flood the whole State! She doesn't even like Florida! :laugh We're actually trying to get the heck out of Florida! Maybe we have just been here too long (OH 6 years and me 21yrs) but it's not our cup of tea... to each his own! Where in FL were you thinking about?

We're looking for a different way of life, a slower pace, nicer people, and better views!

To be honest with 195 points you're pretty much in NZ already! Have you submitted the EOI yet or did you just take the Quick Test?

Thanks all for your warm welcomes :nice1

Mrs Pony:- When we last visited Florida, we stayed in Cape Coral and explored the area and I think this is where I would like to live in an ideal world. You are so right about views, with Florida being flat, views are rare, but I still think Florida has charm.
I also think you are so right about dear old mother nature having it in for Florida. At this very moment she tried her best to have a go with Gustav, but it has missed Florida and is unfortunately making other people's lives a misery :( That is very scary indeed.
Regarding the NZ test, we filled in the quick test on line.

victoria24:- Alright maid! Do you think they sell the wholesome pasty in NZ? Hope so :D

Yes, we are getting hit hard this year! I think my hands are turning into fins!!

Although I feel lucky that we are not New Orleans right about now... they still haven't recovered from Hurricane Katrina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina) 3 years ago... that was a Category 3... and now they are all on a mandatory evacuation because of Gustav. It's going to be either a Category 4 or 5 once it hits land - MANY more homes are going to be lost ...again... :( my heart goes out to them...
