We are hoping to have my daughter (joined the forum at her request) son-in-law and 2 grandchildren here by jan 09.
I arrived in NZ in 97 .. my 13th long distance move; FIFTH international move (6 if you count an England -Wales move) so i figure there isn't too much about moving I don't know from the logistics through the psychology.
We wont count the house to house moves :uhoh
If anyone wants to draw on our experiences ... welcome

Hey I know you....LOL. Glad you joined Mama Bear. I'm sure you'll provide a ton of info to the folks here.
Did we really move that many times?? Goodness...no wonder I have a travel bug. :laugh

Welcome to the forum from another canadian expat.
You moved from Victoria too?? That's where we're leaving from.
Seems to be a fair number of people fleeing this island. LOL:exit

Well I didn't flee, but moved here because my Kiwi husband wanted to come home to spend time with his kids and grandkids. So now we have kids in both countries and go back and forth a lot. Much to recommend about both countries, and I prefer to think that I came here for the adventure rather than fleeing Canada.
I'm always a little skeptical when people talk about coming here for a better life..... it's a different life, .....for me I wouldn't say it is better than Canada, (you can't run away from reality and if you want to change your life, you can do it wherever you are....at least that's my philosophy )
My plan is to experience as much of what's different about NZ and Kiwis..... the zorbster in Rotorua is still on the list!!!!
Good luck and PM me if you have any questions I can help with.

Oh, heehee......poor choice of words on my part. I certainly didn't mean to imply that you fled. Nor are we. We're looking for different, not necessarily better.
What I meant was that I see an extraordinary amount of people leaving (even temporarily) as the cost of living rises here. Yet all of them are sad to leave ..... like us.
I've been trying to convince them all to head down under :D but they're all heading to Cowtown instead. Hehe.

Hi Meg
yes, you have been here before so you know what you will find here, and you have the bonus of family here as well!
have to say (having just returned from BC) that anyone leaving BC because of cost of living would get a massive shock when they discover the cost of living in NZ. This still beats Cowtown though:roll
