Well we finally got to see for ourselves some of what NZ has to offer after many months of dreaming and here are a few of our inital thoughts now we are home :wah
1. It's a long way away.
2. Singapore airlines are brilliant. Great service from the cabin crew, great planes and a superb in flight entertainment system. To top it all our flight from London arrived late in Singapore and the onward flight to NZ was held so that the passengers on our flight could make the connection.
3. NZ has simply amazing scenery.
4. NZ drivers aren't quite as bad as we feared.
5. The unique give way rule is a crazy concept. Sorry to anyone that nearly crashed into a silver Ford Focus over the past two weeks:exit
6. Prices seem comparable to UK prices although it's difficult to really compare because we were comparing everything back to UK prices and couldn't were therefore basing things on what we could buy with a UK salary.
7. Every other shop appears to be a coffee shop.
8. Some NZ homes are ridiculously cold
9. Some NZ homes are lovely and warm.
10. Auckland must surely belong to a different country because it is so different to the rest of NZ.
11. The flight from Auckland to Wellington must be one of the most scenic 45 minute flights in the world.
12. Wellington isn't windy at all.
13. Hastings rocks, literally.
14. Rotorua stinks, literally.
15. We didn't want to leave.
16. The UK is a long way from NZ.
17. To paraphrase Del boy 'This time next year we'll be New Zealanders' touching wood and not tempting fate etc........
Once i figure out how to reduce the size of our piccies I'll be putting loads onto the mega piccy thread.
Finally thanks to Jade and Graham (aka Holland) and Nick and Caron (aka NikT) for meeting us and introducing us to Breakers. They gave us a great welcome although i'm not sure we'll be appreciating the number of dollars we'll be spending in Breakers if/when we get to live in Hawkes Bay.
