Our Expression of Interest was selected from the pool last Wednesday, 27th August. We are applying as skilled migrants based on my partner's qualifications and IT work experience. We think we have 155 points. No job offer but he is going to the thing at Olympia next month.

We have visited NZ before - me three times and him twice. As he is in IT we'll probably be heading for Wellington or Christchurch as that appears to be where the IT jobs are (neither of us want to live in Auckland unless we have to).

I have a (half) brother in the Waiarapa. He's lived there all his life and I know he will help us settle in.

My concerns at the moment are:
That we will have miscalculated the points and they reject our EoI
The medical - I had cervical cancer in 1987. Fully recovered, don't even need to have check-ups any more. Just six month weight & BP check when I get my HRT prescription. But will it bother them?
Also medical - I am overweight (12 and a half stone at just under five feet) this wasn't a concern till I saw some comment on this forum about medical refused on obesity grounds.

Welcome and Good Luck!

With 155 points you should be fine... as long as the EOI is correct. If not they will let you know what the points might drop down to. and you can talk to your CO about what needs to be done

If you don't need check ups anymore you might be ok there as well. I'm thinking you will just have to get cleared which shouldn't be a problem... The weight thing seems to be a big issue (no pun intended) I think your BMI needs to be below 40? You can also see about getting a medical wavier if need be.

If I'm off on anything I'm sure someone will correct me :nice1

Hi Jacqi B and welcome to the forum.

NZIS are 'interested' in anyone who has a BMI of 35 or higher (aged 20+)

Or if your waist circumference is greater than or equal to 88cm for Women (or 80cm if you are Asian/Indian descent).

From the details you provided you are very very close to this limit.

Ian

I'm sure I have seen a thread talking about previous medical conditions - you could try using the Search button on the blue bar above. I believe it said that people who had been clear for five years and over after treatment for cancer were all right.

Hello,
I've only been in Bletchley for six years and don't know many people here.
I don't know how to PM (personal mail?)
I'm on the Poets Estate and worked at the OU.

Thank you. Further reading shows they don't like BMI over 35 (I just about scrape under) or a waist measurement of more than 88cm. That last bit IS a problem. My 'reasonably healthy eating regime' will now be replaced by serious dieting and I'll step up the gym sessions from more than the average of three a fortnight.

OMG I am SO excited. The OH has just phoned to say he's had a phone call from NZ immigration (presumably in London?) wanting more info about his degree (becasue its a BA but in computing/maths). They told him we should get our ITA in the next two to three weeks!!! :clap

Diet and excercise and clearing the house will be my constant themes for the next weeks!

Thank you. I'm so excited but also worried about getting to excited incase something goes wrong. And now thinking there's so much to do and I really must put the laptop down and DO some of them.

We're probably also going to Wellington. OH is going to the expo in Olympia in October (I'll be out of the country so can't go with him) so if he gets a job offer from that and it's for somewhere else things will change. But if we go with no job to go to then it will probably be Wellington.

What made you choose Welly?

Tell me about it! This will be a long emotional roller coaster!

OH used a WHV and lived in Wellington he came back in March 07...we got married in March 08 and went back for the honeymoon... as soon as we got back to the US we started the process!

At least you guys have those Expo's there! We don't have anything like that so you guys have a leg up!

Hi ya,

Such a small world, I am pretty close to you, sunny little Flitton just down the M1. Got selected same day as you, haven't heard anything yet. I am officially jealous :) and in the process of rapidly developing log-in-OCD now, I have to almost physically restrain myself from checking a million times a day to see if my status has changed! I am sooo bad at waiting.

Hey congrats!!!! Really pleased for you :)

Really jealous now, and even more worried as I haven't heard a thing. Got excited this morning because I got a letter from them, but it was just a letter saying I had been "selected". Yes, duh! Knew that two weeks ago. In the mean time the hated selected still on the website. It says that with a job offer they have 10 working days to reply, which according to me was today. I am going to ring tomorrow afternoon after work if nothing has changed by then. Everybody without a job offer seems to have decision successful, and not me :(
