I know it is not an exact answer, but I was under the impression that any hand held game system was region free?
I know this is true for the Nintendo DS as I often buy games for it from America and Australia to use on my UK Nintendo.
Hope this helps!

Yes. I have used my Hong Kong bought PSP with UK Japanese and NZ games. There are no restrictions on the games.
Any videos (UMDs) bought in another region won't work.

Is NZ region 4 when it comes to DVD's? I think that Australia is and had just assumed NZ would be the same?

Yes, DVDs for NZ market are region 4. There are also plenty of DVDs sold in the shops that are for other regions so worth checking before you buy.
