Just watched Place in the Sun and saw a fab place with 15 acres set in Napier with an asking price of £175,000. Is Napier in general a cheap and nice place to live?

Napier is lovely - and really happening at the moment

The Art Deco is nice - good range of shops - lovely countryside and vinyards!!!!

Nicely inbetween Akl and Wgn and near to Taupo and Rotorua!!

(My Dad lives in Hawkes Bay - so this is a good account)

My Place in the Sun
Jean and John Atchinson wanted to retire from Kent to New Zealand, to join their daughter Tara. They finally bought in Napier, on the east coast, where Zilpah Hartley visits them six months later.

Not sure if is the show you were talking about or maybe a follow up but it looks worth setting the video for.
Napier is lovely - Hastings and Havelock are nice too though so you cant lose in the bay

There can't be that many people called Tara. Are we talking Tara Sage here?

Hi Frances,

We moved here to Napier in January and it certainly is a nice place to live but it isn't cheap! In fact Hawkes Bay is the has the fastest rising property prices in NZ. £175 000 will NOT buy you 15 actres in Napier - as a guide a good sized 3 bedroom bungalow in one of the better areas will start at around $300 000 and go up depending on the view/size.

The climate here is superb, we've just had the best summer we've ever known and local people say it wasn't very good! The area is growing quickly with people from NZ cities looking to get away from the rat race as well as immigrants but it still has a small town feel specially where we are in Taradale.

Good luck with your plans and if you want any specific info. let us know.

Ahhh Napier,my birthplace. :clap Lived there 25 yrs, before moving down to Wellington (job related). As said above,a beautiful climate, hottest day i recall was back in the 70's and one day at 33-34c!! tropical stuff, not nice if you're not used to it tho, around 20-24 most summer days, weather permitting.!!...not far to go fishing, either, for those so inclined, lotsa nice seawater for miles....... and flat terrain, except for up on Bluff Hill, which overlooks Napier, and to Cape Kidnappers in the distance, beautiful views on a nice clear day.. ahh,my younger days spent fishing down at the wharves and smoking teehee!! fond fond memories :clap
