Hello,

My name is Victor Eile and I am currently working for a company called Elajo Electrical Installations in Sweden. I am at the of 20 and I have soon served my apprentice - time of 1600 hours. I am interested in coming to New Zealand and work for at least a year. So I wounder if anyone can give me some good piece of advice where to turn to? Who to call? Maybe you know an employer that might employ me? What areas to look at? Anything, would be appreciated!
I should probably add that I have lived in the US for a year as an exchange student, so I speak English fluently.

Victor

Hi Victor,

Electricians are in short supply here.

You first need to get your qualifications assessed by the EWRB.

Hi Eile, look out for 'leccy-lee' he is an electrician in NZ and should be able to point you in the right direction. :)

Good luck with your plans.

Hi Victor, welcome to ENZ pull up a seat..
Of course you speak good English, having been to Sweden most of you speak it better than we do ;)

As to Electricians, yes indeed you would find some work i am sure. You would need to get Registered as Nick mentioned above for working as an Electrician here, and that would mean proving four years of experience as an Electrician so i am unsure where you would be as just 20 with that one?

BUT you could almost certainly get a lower registration as technician and work along side another Electrician etc for the right employer. Most employers would prefer to meet you etc before offering work i have found, but best to contact them and find out.

The exams etc to get Registering could take a few months to arrange and pass, so if you only plan to be in New Zealand for a year you may consider that.

Either way you will find work and could stay here if you wished i am sure as Electricians are needed indeed.

Good Luck, and get in touch anytime i can help.
