I have been in this process (either researching, full steam ahead, oops rule change excludes us, disgusted and forget it, oooh new rules we are back in, finding a job, making application, whatever) so long that I have begun to lose my mind.
My husband is a plumber. We are not through with the PGDB assessment. We were planning to come over with a work permit and then apply for PR. But I am too nervous for that. So much could go wrong. Plus, I was the one with the job offer. And I don't want to work.

On the EOI, it asks for an "assessment" number for my husband's trade. Can I submit the EOI without this and claim the points?
We will have the assessment completed in 1 month but I don't want to wait until then to submit the EOI.

I just spoke with NZIS and she said "submit EOI without assessment and then you can prove on ITA"
But that isn't what the stupid EOI instructions say.

Has anyone done this? Claimed points without the assessment being complete?

ANY help would be sooo appreciated.

I have just completed this section of the EOI and it didnt' actually ask for a number (that is with NZQA).
It asked "has this been assessed? and what level?"
you can't claim the points unless you get the level 4

So, I said YES and LEVEL 4

Can I submit this?

We should have the assessment (and I certainly hope he could get a level 4 there--he is the highest level here!!) finished in time for an ITA (I assume we would get an ITA--we have 155 points)

Then, we send in the PGDB assessment with the ITA and everything is fine?

Anyone want to guess?

And Hi to Kiwi-in-Texas!! (Texas--it's like a whole other country, huh?)

If you submit and then when you do get the number just email NZIS and have them add it to your EOI, then send in the proof when you send in the ITA.
This should probably keep them from docking you points pre-ITA and keep the EOI process ticking along.

I am guessing hugely here...

Hey there,

No, you do not have to have it assessed to do an EOI. However, in your husband's case, his profession sounds like he will need it assessed. The reason why the EOI asks for it because there are many professions that require an assessment and it makes sense to do it before sending out the EOI because the applicant will have the level of the degree and/or certification all set to go. It saves a lot of hassle if/when an applicant's EOI is selected and the preliminary checks are being done. That is when many folks run into trouble. So, it is good to have that information, ready to go. Yes, the NZIS is correct by stating it will be proven on the ITA but I have seen many folks on here whom haggled with immigration about the level of the recognized degree/certification after he/she been selected and the checks are being made. And thus, never made it to the ITA stage OR they get the NZQA done anyway OR the qualification is not high enough to make the cut, meaning their EOI points have been lowered so much that the EOI cannot stay in the pool (below 100 points).

On the other hand, if your degree is a recognized qualification from a recognized affiliation, like in my case, I received a Master's at a recognized college, I do not need an assessment of my degree. There is a list of recognized qualifications some where on the NZIS website and they divide it up by which country he/she studied in.

Hope this helps and good luck with your plans! :nice1

Hi,
Thought that I could share my experience, I submitted my EOI without an assessment but proceeded on with full assessment concurrently after submitting my EOI. My EOI was selected and status changed to 'Decision Successful' after about a week.

By the way, my degree was in the LOTR list, maybe thats the reason why they did not request for pre-assessment in the EOI stage.. I'm not sure, however since im claiming bonus points for work experience and qualification, i'm pretty sure they will request for full assessment in ITA (Have not receive it yet).

Anyway the below was what i selected when i complete my EOI:

Is this qualification included on the List of Recognised Qualifications?
Or has an Occupational Registration Body assessed your qualification as comparable to a New Zealand qualification that is on the List of Recognised Qualifications?
Yes
What is the level assessed by NZQA?
7 - Bachelors degrees, Graduate diplomas
F4a. Has your qualification been assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority?
No
F5a. What are the reference number, type and level assessed by NZQA?
Reference number - NA

Regards

Thanks for all your replies. I am going to just submit it and hope that it goes through without too much trouble.
The assessment will happen concurrently. Hopefully, this will not mess us up!
