ITA was refused on the basis I was claiming for 120 points but they marked it down to 95 as they said I did not meet the criteria as per column 4 of the skills shortage list, I know of no other way to get any more points as OH is not qualified in anything, Dream diminishing in to distance Oh Well :((

Sympathies. Could you perhaps try for a job offer?

Job offers seem very few when you are still located in the UK

Don't give up.
I got disgusted and gave up last year and we have literally been around the world since then and we are.... back to NZ!!
You can get a job offer. Network on this forum. Find ways to make friends in NZ. Email everyone in NZ. Apply for jobs. Just keep being pro-active.
It will work out if you just keep trying.

Always think that today is the day before it all works out. You wouldn't quit on the day before it all works out, would you?

I am so sorry. :( Like the others mentioned, perhaps getting a job offer? Hang in there and do not give up!

If all else fails and you want to take a chance arrive and go for the work permit...If your skills allow most employers will help your case.If its a strong dream take a chance. if its a hope keep tryin at your end things dont always come easy ,a fighter stands a better chance than a quitter :)

I'm sorry to hear that! Just like the other posts said - don't give up if it is your dream. Other people have found a way to get over there via other routes.

Can I be nosy? Do you mind if I ask what your qualification and skills were in that gave them cause to decline you.

First of all - don't give up if this is really, truly what you want!

When we submitted our EOI we thought we had 145 points which at the time would have equalled automatic ITA. But we got knocked back to 115pts because OHs degree was in Electrical Engineering not IT which we were claiming points for as LTSS.

We could have sat in the pool and waited for the points criteria to drop low enough but instead decided to make an investment in our dream. OH came out to NZ for 1 week to try to secure a job. Despite Anzac day being in the middle of the week (we'd forgotten all about it) he still managed to interview with 8 companies (IIRC) and came home with 3 job offers. Hey presto points back over the magic 140 mark and ITA arrived very soon after!

I appreciate not everbody has the resources to do this but if you can I'd say do it. Employers seem to be so much more receptive to candidates who are here in NZ and that they get to have face-to-face interviews with. As long as you line up some interviews before you leave you stand a good chance of coming home with a job offer.

I've posted about this before and the agencies OH used on these threads, FYI OH is in IT:

Hi JK and A I am a Site Manager in Construction, I have a BTEC certificate in builing studies and a NVQ level 4 in Site Inspection, I believe the NVQ is higher than the BTEC, However on UK info sites it says NVQ 4 is comaprable with a Diploma, but NZIA says it is only a level 5 in there world, but I beleive it should be a level 6 so have asked others on here if anyone has had a Level 4 assessed by NZQA

Can I ask if this points drop was because your OH's degree was not related to the work experience?

I ask as I have a Maths degree (not IT) and yet I have more years than I would care to count in IT..

Am confused it you can claim the points for experience in an area of LTSS if you don't have a qualification in that area?

As I understand things, unfortunately, you can not claim bonus points if your degree (qualification) was not in IT.

My degree is in Chemistry, and I too have more years that I would care to count in IT, but I was not allowed bonus points for the experience because the degree was not specifically in IT.
