Okay I am getting jittery now - I am pretty sure getting PR with teaching qualifications/ experience is not an issue...but what about getting a teaching job?

Would love to hear from:

Teachers: do you see Asian teachers in your schools?
Parents: do your kids have Asian teachers?

Does anyone actually know of English teachers in NZ who are Asian?

*experiencing mild case of panic attack* :wah

There are asian teachers in my daughters school as well as asian teaching assistants who help teach english to non-native speakers.....one in another year 1 class sounds like she is from Birmingham/West midlands from her accent.

Yay! All my (Asian) kid's teachers have been white women for, hmmm, 9 of 10 years she's been in the care of someone else for M-F education (her teacher for the last year has been a white man - which is atypical to see a guy teaching younger kids).

But that's how the childcare and elementary education scene typically looks in the US. Perhaps because professionals-of-colour are seeking higher paying occupations - this shared by a black woman years ago when asked why so few black women were going into elemenary ed (we pay our daycare providers and elementary teachers relatively poorly here).
