I'd appreciate any information or advice.
I'm a 30yr single male, US citizen currently awaiting the approval of my Working Holiday visa. Have read alot about NZ and I believe it is highly likely I may want to stay and live in NZ.
However, as I hold no college degree my migrant points indicator is rather low. Thing is, what I do..what I love doing.. there is no college diploma or bachelor's degree for it. It just does not exist. I'm a travel consultant. Specifically, international wholesale travel consultant.
I have 2 years experience in the USA and will be adding 1 year experience in NZ in this job category (I couldn't believe how many job opening there were listed for this specific field!).
However, this is not in the 'skilled' category. Though there is a crazy number of positions open and many have been vacant for months.
More enticing yet, is that NZ has various universities offering degrees in my field. 2 year degrees. I had thought of coming in as a student but I would not be able to support myself since student visa only allows part time work.
Even before I travel I am very disheartened by my prospects. I'd like to ask of those here that have gone through this if there is anything that i'm missing or that can be done to improve my chances of having residence once my year is over?
I'm sure I can land a job offer in my field (outside Auckland of course).. heck i've had companies tell me i'd be hired if i had the work visa (checked the waters before applying for working holiday).. some even said that I was quite overqualified for the position due to my work experience.
What say ye?
