what about the little kid up in scotland? the 2 year old shot by the !@£$%^&* 27 year old male. his life support has been pulled - bullet lodged in his brain. his family must be so distraught. i mean, what are these morons thinking? ' i'll just sit home on the dole all day and make life misery for everyone??? it was bad enough that he was shooting at the firemen, but a 2 year old, at close range, in the head??? i bet you he's on the streets in no time - and thats if they get him off.

i want to send these people a cheque. there is no point aiding tsunami victims if these have-nots in scotland dont get a look in. how do you do it? if enough people did it something good might come of it. maybe they could get off that !@£$%^&* notorious easterhaus estate. i'm going to contact the newpapers.

honestly. a 27 yr old man shooting a 2 year old walking to the local shops with his brother. bring back lynching.

It's a known fact that thugs set fire to buildings and cars in order to target the firemen when they arrive on the scene.

A simple answer to that would be a minimum sentence of ten years in clink with no remmison when caught.

And whats the chances of that? Nil. :no :no :no

The law would come down more heavily on someone holding a sing song in a public place without a licence.

Well, what can be said? How do you get into the mindset of these people?
It is completely beyond comprehension @#!&*@@ - frustration!!
Bleeding heart liberals will tell us about the lack of opportunities, treat people like animals syndrome etc. which to some extent is true. But we all struggle, and the majority of us do'nt ever dream up things like this, let alone do it.

However, how can you condone the behaviour of a person like this, who was allegedly trying to take pot shots at firemen? Having the greatest respect for the fire service, having been rescued from a fire myself as a child that claimed the life of my elder brother, I cannot understand the attraction of shooting at people who are essentially there to save lives and prevent damage to property.
A bit of a laugh? Bravado in front of mates? For God's sake he is 27 YEARS OLD! It is a sad reflection on society and the human race that we still have the capacity to spawn ****heads like this. The law is an ass. This thing should be locked away for a very long time at least.
And then the issue should be dealt with PROPERLY by the government and law, banning these things. I know what can be done with these things because I used to own one, and put a nice hole in my friends leg and his old aunts ceiling when it went off by accident. Good job it was only a little air rifle.

Rant over, but the world is indeed a very sad place, and it's what we do to it as humans that is the saddest part :(

I live in Scotland and work in another notorius Glagow estate Castlemilk. Don't know what the answers are - because it isn't one thing. Drugs are definitely an issue - so is the lack of self belief of many people - if you're 3 generation unemployed then it's unlikey that you will work - and then again why should you - when you can run around in your designer labels, trendy trainers, have mobile phones, PS2's TV, DVD, sky, etc, etc, without ever lifting a finger or contributing - and then when you retire you get the same pension as those of us who have worked hard for our living all our days.

Then there is the problem of jail sentences and jail itself. 2 months for killing a 12 year old drink driving, weekends home when you do get convicted - where is the deterrent? And certainly no sense of community - whenI was a kid (and no too long ago) if you were doing something wrong an adult would tell you off and send you home - now everyone looks the other way.

So many young people have no respect for themselves - so how are they going to have respect for others? No proper family units - no community - no proper rules or boundaries (we all knew what we could and couldn't do) - schools issuing red and yellow cards - the worst kids getting great trips out for rewards and the good kids have to sit and watch it - no incentive to behave at all.

When I was pregnant with my first son I attended parent craft lessons - and all they taught you was how to change a nappy and make up a bottle. Prenthood has to be one of the most important things you ever do and you get no training to do it. I bring up my kids based on what my parents did with me - just think of the experience some kids get today and see the problems multiplying in the future.

Hence my decision to want to look beyond these shores - because I don't see it getting better no matter who wins the next election.

Sorry about the rant but this touched a nerve - I was driving home last night and the local news covered the story - with a friend of the family reading out a statement in tears - I could hardly see the road for crying myself - what a tragedy.

I always think that the best way to deal with these junkies is just to flood the market with the most purest herioin going and within days they would of wiped themseleves out.

Though there are some elements in society that are just pure evil. Not just British but evrey country in the world.

we all knew what we could and couldn't do

This is so true. We were given very strict guidlines and boundaries. We never dared cross them becuase we knew exactly what the consequences would be.

We were taught to respect others, not just older people .... ALL people, including ourselves. I never considered I was 'hard done by' as a kid, it wasn't just us who were brought up this way, it was the norm. I'm 41 now so we're not talking Victorian times here.

I have the best relationship on earth with my parents and my siblings, there's nothing we wouldn't do for each other. I have the same relationship with our 2 sons. It wasn't difficult getting to where we are today (family relationship wise), it was a natural progression.

I know it's an often mentioned maxim, but what these people need is to ''GET BACK TO BASICS".

Nothing wrong in wanting a mobile phone, DVD, PS2, trendy clothes and the latest trainers. What IS wrong is the apparant attitude that it is a God given right to have these things supplied by the govt. If we want something we work for it. Why can't these pond scum do the same?

I would dearly love to write what I actually think, but: a) I'd get banned from the forum and b) I'd get arrested by the PC Police.

i believe your solution is generally referred to as 'thinking outside the box'.
perhaps introduce it gently AFTER you win office...

It's often generations of abuse, drugs and violence in some families. It's well known that people bring up their kids according to the example they had. Only intelligent people might be smart enough to realize that there is another way. I don't know what society can do about it, there will always be families like that.
I agree that there should be a basic course for every parent and i think also that when there is something wrong in a family that there should be programs for it, to break the chain of violence.
I agree totally that abuse of government money should be pursued and punished accordingly, but some people have to be helped when they can't help themselves. We have to protect society from crazy people. Lock them up for life!!! They can work for their place in prison. No need to lower ourselves to murder.
