Hi

My hubby has come home tonight with a 2inch cut across his forehead which happened in work today.

He went to the Manager to report the incident - to be ignored! I am absolutely livid and have just come down off the roof so to speak! I have ranted and raved at him that it is proceedure to have it written down in the companys accident book.

A bloke that works under Steven my hubby, was carrying a huge piece of timber across the workshop and it hit Steven in the forehead - an accident ?? He had a too do with him a few weeks ago when Steven had to tell him off for a job that had gone wrong and cost the company money - to have a saw thrown across the workshop as he didnt like being told.

When Steven asked him today if he was going to apologise - he said 'get over it'

I know i prob have over reacted but am so bouncing mad that he has been treated like this by the Manager moreso.

I know Steven isnt a child and isnt perfect but he doesnt deserve to be treated like this and is ready to walk out the door.

I feel like typing up an incident report and have taken a picture of his forehead too. He suffers with very nasty nosebleeds and i really dont want them starting up again.

Rant over!!!!!!!!!!

Sharon that's awful! i wouldn't like to make a judgement on the revenge thing but to ignore a workplace injury is serious. Trouble is, in this sort of situation, if you complain about procedures etc and get nowhere, where do you go from there? Take a deep breath and consider all possible outcomes before you do anything rash. But insist it goes in the accident book if nothing else.

May well be a good idea to write down exactly what happened, names and times etc and take photos. Don't do anything with them, just keep hold of them in case you need them in future. I would also insist that the manager log the incident in the accident book for the same reasons.

As Lockstock said, don't do anything rash, calm down and think about what, if any, the consequences may be. Then when you are calm you can make the right decision for you.

I have since calmed down and taken a picture of his forehead and have typed an incident report for our reference.

I have told him he has to have it written in the accident book for him as well as the boss - who probably isnt aware it has happened.

I have told him to go to work tomorrow and just keep his head down, not do anything rash and see what occurs.

Up until now he was so happy with his job!

He should get it looked at by a doctor so it will go on ACC record if nothing else.

I'm not sure but ACC may check with employer accident records.

Plus, if it turns out he has concusion or something, it's best to be certain since it's free under ACC.

Great advice on this thread! Definitely worth going to the doctor for - at the very least it will give you more documentation - and it circumvents the need to make a fuss at work. Document document document. Hopefully you won't need to do anything but file everything and never look at it again, but just in case...

Is he in a union? If so they would advise you on what to do.

NO Derv, he isnt!

He has just left for work. He has been awake most of night with head ache and i have said if it continues he is to come home and go to the Dr. He says i over react cos i work in a Hospital - perhaps i do ? Just worry about him.

Hubby went to work today but was home within 3hrs or so with a splitting headache.

I rang work and spoke to boss's PA and said how disgusted i was at the way he has been treated - moreso that an accident hadnt been recorded which was breaking the law - he doesnt know this!! - and she knew nothing about it. She was dumbstruck - very apologetic and she said she would get to the bottom of it.

I rang back - the accident is now recorded - no apologies from the Manager or bloke who did it - but she apologised which was something.

Guess its something!

the company should have a grievance policy, which may have been issued with your hubbies contract? if not, ask if they have a copy the can give you.

it sounds like the boss needs to be made aware of the problems your hubby is having with the other bloke. his atttude sounds totally unexceptable and may the boss may deam diseplinary action an acceptable route - ie verbal warning/1st written warning.

hope things get better for you both. x
