Ok, i guess by now most of us have had to go to our dentist for treatment.

Thought i would start a thread on what prices you're looking at paying when you get here -

Hastings - Hawkes Bay
Consultation and Filling - $140
X ray per tooth - $10
Scale and Polish - $75

Please anyone feel free to post your charges!

I know it's slightly off topic from the original question but in my UK NHS practice in Scotland.

Consultation and filling: £6.84 to 17.56 depending on size of filling.
Xray £3.16
Scale polish £10.08

AND people still moan about the prices!!!!

Can't wait to move :clap

Scale and polish - $75 / quarter mouth !! And I'm really hacked off with the state of my teeth since the cleaning - had no problems with staining and now I only have to look at a glass of red wine and they're going off colour. :wah

Root canal - I've had two since being here - one corrected from UK which went "bad" $1,200 and a complete one, from scratch, $1,400-ish.

I got these quotes from a place near Auckland Uni called Lumino. I haven't used them.
Dental Check Up $80.00
This includes:
Full examination/consultation $40.00
2 Bite-wing x-rays $40.00
Treatment plan (and estimation cost/s)

Please note if we need to take further x-rays this will cost an extra $25.00 each

*Fillings:
Amalgam (this is the silver filling) cost from $160.00
Composite (this is the white filling) cost from $178.00

*Scale & Polish (Clean)
Cost from $80.00

If you are a first time patient it is advisable to have a dental check up first, this way we can see if you need to have any work done.

Its about the same here! WITH dental insurance! I just spent about $150 for 2 small fillings... dental insurance is such a joke here....

Christchurch - $90 for fixing a chip on a front tooth. Took 30 mins, and the dentist admitted he'd chipped one of his own and hadn't fixed it yet! Then went back for X-ray and hygiene clean (he did this), and was charged $80.
Seems I got a bit of a bargain. So far, I'm getting better value than the £40/month I paid on a UK insurance plan.

I've not been to a dentist yet, never had teeth trouble in my life, never even a filling. Lucky me!

I'm looking for a dentist to put some Wisdom teeth IN for me !!!

I had two wisdom teeth taken out today (and am on some WONDERFUL pain medication) and it cost me $380 for the two extractions ($190 each). I decided I was tough enough to have it done with a local anaesthesia (actually, I just couldn't justify spending literally THOUSANDS of dollars for a general anaesthesia and oral surgeon).

Initial consultation - $65
OPG xray (one of those whole mouth ones) = $26
Extraction - $380
Meds (antibiotics, pain killers and anti inflammation) - $32

So in all it was around $500.

I had two wisdom teeth taken out todayAll the best for the recovery. I had one taken out a couple of months ago (also with local, and with road works including pneumatic drill going on outside!), and the hole in my gum is now just about filled in. (It healed up in about two weeks, but I was still having to make sure it stayed clear of food bits.)

Ohh, I can add something to this:

Had a tooth ache on a tooth I just spent 500 Euros (about 1000 dollars on seven weeks ago...), but the dentist there warned me it might go wrong again, so fair enough.

Went to a dentist Monday: consultation, x-ray and some tiny bit of filling the sore bit: $280.

BUT...

The bridge to cover the gap after the tooth has finally given up: $3500 and, even better, the alternative implant of a tooth to fill the gap: $6000.

It was a good thing I was sitting when he told me the prices.

I've searched for an answer to this without success, so apologies if it's been asked before, but:

Is there an NZ equivalent of the UK's DenPlan (or similar) to help spread the costs of dental work in NZ?

Cheers :)

Oops - ignore me; I have found that then answer is "no" but you can add dental care into your healthcare insurance for what people seem to feel is a high cost.

Thanks JandM ... I look a bit like a chipmunk today. Glad it's the school holidays and I don't need to be anywhere. Although, I'm getting quite sick of the liquid mush I've been eating... I want to CRUNCH on something:uhoh

I'm the sort of person who waits until I'm in agony for a couple of weeks before I go to the dentist.:wah

Then it costs a bloody fortune!!:exit

Been ok since being in NZ, but I've got a dentist lined up.

Nick.:cheers

Haven't been to the dentist for a long time, but having just chipped one of my teeth with a filling in it, I've fixed up an appintment with a dentist (soonest I could get was to weeks!) so this info is useful and frightening regarding prices!

1 new filling and 1 replaced filling. $80 each.

Scale and polish was included in this price. :)

Need a wisdom tooth out - about $1200 incl sedation

Regularly see a fabulous hygienist at the same surgery $100 but well worth it - never had my teeth so shiny and clean!!
