Proof of funds

Hi all
We have just finished pulling our entire ITA together ready to post on Monday and was wondering if anyone has needed to prove how much money they have to support yourselves for the first two years, if so how much do they expect you to have?
Many thanks

Haven't needed to prove it yet, but ITA is still pending. I don't think you do need to prove it really.
Could be wrong, but I don't think I've seen anyone say they needed to prove it.

Hmm, haven't heard of anyone having to prove funds for that long - I think if you're coming on visitors visas they require/recommend you have xx amount / month to support yourself (around $1000 I believe)?

Actually, asking for a 3 month visitor visa they didn't even check our tickets (about 2 months) or ask for proof of funds at the airport/customs. YMMV of course, but I was a bit surprised.

Same, no-one checked on our status either and we had 6mth visitors visas!
The official info is:
Evidence of funds
You will also need to show us proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay. This means you have a minimum of:
* NZ$1000 per person per month of the visit, or
* NZ$400 per person per month if accommodation has already been paid for – we will require proof of prepayment, such as hotel prepaid vouchers.
Acceptable evidence of sufficient funds can be demonstrated in the form of:
* cash
* travellers' cheques
* bank drafts
* recognised credit cards with sufficient credit available – it is recommended that visitors have an up-to-date credit card statement.
Other acceptable evidence is a declaration by a New Zealand sponsor that they will pay for your accommodation and maintenance.

We had to prove funds before we got WTR in Jan 06, so things might have changed. But...
The WTR visas were valid for 2 years, and I think we had to prove funds for 6 months.
Like Moorf said, it was $1000 a month, per adult, or $400 a month if you were staying with someone already in NZ.
We borrowed money off a relly, put it in our account, requested statements and sent them to NZIS, then gave the money back.:p
Like I said, things might be different now.:rolleyes:

Thanks all, sounds like hit and miss but as long as we have something.... or a relative with some money things will be fine.
Thanks again

I am not sure that if this will work again, as I figured that some embassies does not require only the account balance, but a statement for the last 6 months.
Can your friends/relative stand for the loan for more than 6 months :exit ?
It might be different for NZIS.
Let's wait and see

I never had to prove any funds (got PR this February). If I had....I would have been in a spot of bother! Think I came over here with total funds of £1500 cash, plus a ~£10,000 student loan debt, ~£200 overdrawn UK account, and all my belongings fit in the back of my backpacker banger, worth ~$1500!
