Hi!
My question is for those who are in NZ already. What are the average monthly expenses of a family with 1-2 children? I mean electricity, water, gas, TV and other basic things like these...
Thank you!
Ozzy

is that for the whole of the summer and the whole of the winter or is that the quarterly bill?

I would say it is per month - you don't get quarterly bills here. (Well not from any of the power comanies I've used so far.)

Our powerbill in summer is around 95 dollars, and in winter around 145 dollars.
We have gas from street though, so our water is more cheaply heated than it would be through electricity.

Seems a heck of alot to me, too, and I live here..... no way do we spend $3-$3.5k on bills/food etc per month on top of a mortgage!!! That is more like our spend WITH a mortgage of just under $2k / month!

Rent: ~$840
food: ~$400
electric: $200 (during winter)
mobile: $50
internet/home phone: $65
Car insurance: $33
haven't figured out petrol yet (just got the car)

total: ~$1558/month for 2 people. however: we could eat for less, but I LOVE nice cheese.

we also buy random other stuff, but i haven't included that because it's usually not necessary or part of keeping up the house.

Family of 5:

Food/nappies/takeaway/booze $1000 max
Average household bills (incl. utilities, insurance, bus pass, OH aikido) ~ $800
Rent ~ $2380
Fuel ~$100 ( $? more in summer when we go exploring at weekend)

Total ~ $4280
This doesn't include any other expenses like kids swimming lessons/clothes etc as they are non-essential.
