Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone could guide me here:
I am still undecided as to which city to target right now. The job market would weigh in heavily in that decision. I am particularly fond of South Island - specifically Chch , Nelson and Queenstown.
I dont need big bucks-just enough to live in a nice, small (and out of town if possible) community with wife and 3 kids.
So where should I be looking and what should i expect, given the following:
10 years ICT/Telecoms experience, currently a senior design role in a large engineering consultancy.
NGN technologies, Systems support blah blah...
I am planning a recce early next year - so could you advise some recruiters who might be interested in lining up interviews?
Its frustrating not knowing which cities to target - other than Auckland (not on my list of destinations of choice-however I can reassess my decision based on the options)
cheers and thanks

Like lots of places the telecomms market is a bit quiet at the moment, but hopefully it is going to pick up shortly.
You have a lot of experience, but not sure about Queenstown, don't think there is much in the way of industry there!
Chch may be a better option for you though. Have a google for seekit for job ideas.
Good luck

We initially thought of heading to ChCh, but Mike is in IT Telecoms and we really couldn't find that much in the way of suitable jobs for him. We are currently in Wellington and there are plenty of Telecom IT jobs here.
You dont have to live in the city here, there are plenty of nice suburbs that are comutable to Welly.

I would appreciate some advise if possible. I wouldnt mind paying a recruitment adviser either. My main concern is finding suitable and stable work. At least for the first year or two to help settle down. Is there a forum for the IT/Telecoms bods down in wellington or any way I could network with a peer group here.
Sorry to ask so much of you :D
cheers

also try "curry" (wellington.thursdaynightcurry.com)
I believe most of the people are IT bods, and you get good advice, a curry and a pint as well. What more could someone want?

Excellent link - thanks a lot.
I might not be able to make it to the expo - but the links provided are vital.
What I'd be interested to know is whether there are any members here who could provide leads into the hiring industry (friends or someone who may have hired you). I usually find LinkedIN (business networking site) as a useful tool to get in touch with HR professionals directly (helps in the search as well as builds up rapport between recruiters/jobseekers) rather than a 'dry CV on the desk' kind of relationship.
Anyway - I am rambling a bit here - thanks a lot everyone for your inputs
