Tilers....much demand in NZ?

Hiya....:p

As some might know, I am about to leave the RAF and am currently doing a 4-week intensive tilers course (floor/wall), with an add on to start my own business (we are lucky in the military and get some money to retrain before we join the civilian way of life!). What demand is there for tilers in NZ? Just curious at this stage....

The building trade is pretty quiet worldwide right now but sometimes that translates to an increase in the home improvement side of things. There's quite a few tile shops around here so I guess that tilers are also in demand.

Thanks Myles.....

Just curious at the moment. If my tiling business takes off in the UK, then I may be able to transfer the success to NZ. Although the building trade is generally quiet in the UK, there is still alot of money to be had doing tiling; certainly from what I have read....

A friend of mine turned over £80k last year. I admit he has been in the business for some time, but nevertheless, it does indicate that the work is still there.....

Cheers for the help

We have just used a really good tiler here and he says that although things are a bit quieter now than he would like he still has enough work for himself and the 2 guys he employs.

Is 'getting tiled' a posh version of 'getting plastered?

:laugh

Good luck with the new venture.

Hi Good luck with your venture,
how did your mate get 80k? how many guys did he have working for him?

I also have learnt tiling and was thinking about trying it in NZ, so its good to hear someone who thought the same..

I have never tried tiling as a full time job tho,

at the moment i am sticking with my present career in the water industry and considering finding a related job in NZ.
