As mentioned in another thread, I'm hopefully going to be in a position for a job offer this week. Should I book medicals, get checks etc. now?

Also, do I have to get a work permit before I fly or can I fly on my normal visa and then apply when been there a few days?

A final one, should I renew my UK passport for myself and my daughter, both of which run out next year (march for her, november for me) now, so I've got a long time left on them?

Well, I'd say wait till you get confirmation of the job. What's the rush?

As far as permits go, just fly out on your UK passport & get your full work permit/visa here...if you've a concrete offer you can probably get your permit/visa sorted out in a matter of hours (assuming, of course, NZIS don't want to run a market search on the position - this will depend entirely on the nature of the work) as long as you go to the offices early in the morning.
Also, remember to take written confirmation of the job offer with you.

And, yes...probably a good idea to renew your passports.
