Ok, I missed the forum 1 week in NZ update. But we have been very busy with little access to the web until now - sorry guys.
What have we been up to...
Since arriving at ChCh we have spent 2 weeks at Spencer Park. Beautiful place, but not great for setting up all the bits we needed to as you can't get a vodaphone signal. That said, would we go back there?...hell yes. Great place and friendly people that have helped us a lot.:nice1
What have we done...
bank accounts done, bought a car after 1 nights sleep, 2 mobiles set up, finally found a beautiful home where we wanted in Parklands (difficult bit without the mobile or web access), kids enrolled in school for after hols, set up phone, broadband, electric, etc and now just waiting for another week until all our bits arrive. - On that, thanks to everyone here who has been very generous with help (you know who you are).
We went to Spencer Park to meet a lot of people (Hi all), have managed to keep contact via email with our UK friends. Parents seem to be coming round as they say we sound happy.
Most importantly, the kids are starting to settle. It has been hard for them as there have been a lot of changes and the eldest 2 have been out of school for 10 weeks now (start 13/10 at last).
We are getting to know our way around quite well (we haven't spent a day at home yet) and what shops for different bits, etc.
We notice NZ accents less and us using NZ vowels happens but we don't notice it much. I even made my 1st settling in mistake and put .co.nz and the end of my Hotmail Uk email account, wondering why it would not log in!
Still looking for a job, but knew it would not be easy (many applications already in).
Overall (i thought about this while having a very nice celebration cigar tonight that I bought at customs) we are happy, relaxed and fitting into our new life. Be nice to have the job, but I can say that I am looking forward to the family and friend visits so we can show them our new life - and that is the furthest ahead I have allowed my self to think/plan for a year or 2.

Sounds like you deserve the celebration cigar!

Well done on getting so much done already - I'm sure the job will come along next. Best wishes for the future and look forward to more updates in due course.

(And thanks for starting that "renting" thread ....we will be on the North Island in 28 days now instead of stuck in limboland.)

:cheers
