Sky Jump!

The OH did the Sky Jump today and loved it, the kids thought he was wearing a Superhero outfit. :D
We were really lucky as we got there when they open (10am) and as they were quiet they let him jump again for free. So definitely worth going off season before the tourists start appearing.

I thought they always let you do a second jump for free, as long as you did it straight after the first one? I know a couple of friends who have been over all jumped twice.
I've only been up once - and I had to have copious numbers of cocktails in Bar3 before I would even contemplate doing that. I can't stand being up high, I have the worst vertigo ever, and get a weird feeling in the soles of my feet just thinking about being in tall buildings. Balconies are even worse!

I really thought I would do it but backed out when we got there. I was also very concerned that they would weigh me :D
I'm going to try again when we move over.

OH wants to do it.....but just the thought of him doing it makes me nervous, so i'd never be able to myself. Woudln't have a problem with abseiling and i'm not scared of heights....but think it is the lack of control that freaks me out because I also really hate lifts :o

My friend did the skywalk and had a fabby time, her photos were awesome. I kinda wish I had gone with her, but I know I would have been a complete wimp over the whole thing!
Maybe one day...... I love going up the skytower though, I just have a preference fro staying indoors and using the lift!

I'm planning to do the walk and jump when we eventually arrive over there. It will be interesting to see if I actually go through with it. I love being high up, love flying but hate heights if it involves a sheer drop (I don't like standing on cliffs, for example).

I have a friend coming to town next month and mentioned us doing the skyjump. I am afraid of heights so we'll see if I actually go through with it.

Not sure - i"d like to have some sort of control over things.
But then I've already done a static line parachute jump from 3,000 ft :D
... and the 102m Pipeline bungy in Skippers Canyon...
... and the 100m Lost World abseil in Waitomo

Oh maybe they do, they told us it was because it was not very busy. He also got a voucher which allows him to do another jump at some point for $75.

Its worse than that! They write your weight on your hand in felt tip pen and you then spend the rest of the day walking around with it for everyone to see. :laugh
I noticed they also sold T shirts that said something along the lines of "I nearly did the Sky Jump".

my feet are tingling as i read this thread. went there about 5 years ago and watched from the bottom with tingling feet and legs, at the time, we decided that it wasn't worth the money, but vowed to go back and have a go another time.
Didn't even make it to central Auckland this year, but i WILL do it at some point!

I am the proud owner of a "Just Did It" T-shirt from the SkyJump. :D :nice1 I would have done the 2nd (free) jump, where they let you plummet without stopping you 10m down to take a photo, but my daughter wasn't quite aware it was me coming down at 85 kph and got all upset when I landed, poor thing, so I didn't do the 2nd one. Of course I wish I would have! I had a horrible case of vertigo at the time, too, that lasted nearly a year. :laugh
Next up, zorbing in Roto-Vegas in January! :cheers

DS is desperate to do it.
I said I'd do it for my 40th but with it approaching fast erm :exit
my parents said that if any of us are doing it to tell them after we have done it, not before :laugh and DS wants to do it as my mum is over in New year with her watching - I don't think she would survivor watching him!!

My bro did the jump when he visited. Unfortunately, the person ahead of him landed very hard and unbeknownst to the staff, the video camera got knocked out. So the video of his descent is him hanging for a few seconds and a couple of blurry shots of the sky. At least they gave the video to him for free.

That will be me. I have the tendency to land like a sack of spuds. I'll have to ask the person behind me if they're desperate for a video. :D

Iget a weird feeling in the soles of my feet just thinking about being in tall buildings. Balconies are even worse!
With you on that one.
I get that odd feeling when I see a view straight down from a tall building on the telly, or a cliff face etc....
Nearly soiled myself in the lift up the sky tower when i realised it had a glass panel in the floor then, OMG!, there were suddenly windows looking straight out......aaargghhh!!!!! PP will remember the look on my face no doubt....
Oddly though, flying doesn't worry me, even in a small helicopter (which we did up Franz Josef glacier)

Heh... from what I hear (I was tempted to go over there to experience it) some colleagues in the State Insurance Tower (aka "The Black Tower") in Welly today were walking with feet wide apart so they wouldn't fall over, the building was swaying that much in the wind. :laugh You would have loved that, BBB! ;)

I did it, loved it and have the T-shirt. Remember - only the first step is difficult :) The fall feels more like flying as it is at a controlled speed. My wife was too scared to walk on the glass floor in the tower and I freaked her out by jumping up and down on it :laugh
Best adrenaline rush in NZ was from the Canyon Swinging in Queenstown which I highly recommend.
