Hello friends,

I am still emailing some recruitment agencies and job seekers websites, but it seems that finding a job while abroad is about as impossible as it can be.

Some employment agencies don't reply, some replied telling that application was not successful, but most employers reply or even the advertisers state that "You must be eligible to work in New Zealand" or "You do not have the right to enter New Zealand" or "You have to attend a face2face interview", which all are not feasible in the meantime.

Do you have another ideas ?

Ali Ismail

This is a common question. Check out this thread:

The short answer is, unless you are in a role that is very difficult to fill, they will not look to hire you until you are standing at their door with a visa in hand (or if your lucky, without a visa).

Yes, we found this very true!
Luckily hubbys profession - a joiner - was in demand and we got over here in matter of weeks.

Good luck

Hi Ali
I'm in the same boat. I have already emailed my CV to so many employers! But their responses were the same as yours! The problem is obviously that we're not there yet...

We've had the same frustration, too. It was a moot point in the end, as we couldn't sell our house to make the move. Next time we will still actively seek a job from the States (because you never know!) and be prepared to move over w/o a job offer on a visitors visa.
At the least, the job hunt gave us experience and opened the lines of communication between us and recruiters. Hubby also lined up one job interview (and 8 recruiter interviews) from here as we were going on a reccy at that time.
I guess what I'm saying is it's always worthwhile to make the effort and to always be on the lookout for a plan "B"!:nice1
Good Hunting,

Hi Ali,

As for my case, I've been searching and applying in Seek for almost a month now. And I guess, most of the reply I get are from recruitment agencies like 'Robert Walters' and the like. I even received an overseas call from them, trying to find out on my migration status or when will we be in NZ so they can organize interview with employers.

So I guess the best thing that we can do, if that job offer is a bit hard to get, is when the time gets closer to your landing in NZ, contact the employers and recruitment agencies so to have as many schedule of interviews as possible to have prospective employers once in NZ.

Anyway, good luck to us all :nice1

Same situation happened to me. I've been searching the jobs from early of this year and most reply or feedback i got is "Do you have PR" or "What is your visa status". All of this almost make me give up. But until these day i still trying and trying.

Nearly every single job on Seek states that they are not interested in people who do not have the right to work in NZ. I'm actually suprised, that others are suprised that they are not getting a response :).

Just wanted to add in our experience to this thread. I really do think it comes down to what field you work in :yes We were lucky in that OH was offered two jobs on the basis on video and phone interviews and both of those job ads stated 'you have to be eligible to work in NZ etc'. He works in biomedical science specialising in all things blood so quite specific skills... However, he was knocked back almost automatically for a huge number of jobs beforehand (and TBH he was more than qualified to do all of them!) so a lot of determination and pretty thick skin needed to get there in the end :yes

Good luck to those job hunting

Sorry, I may have missed it but what area of work are you in?

Before I started the process, EOI etc., I was looking at various job sites. Rather than actually apply for roles, I sent an email to the recruitment departments enquiring about job availability in my skilled area and asked if they would be so kind as to take a look at my CV. I received lots of positive feedback, though I also had various people suggest that I get the ball rolling with the PR application.

I also found these sites useful

Again, I looked up relevant work areas and sent out CV's. Although I am a Nurse, I'm actually qualified in Learning Disabilities so the opportunities weren't so varied as they would have been say if I were adult/general trained.

I'd say keep trying :yes
