Hi all-
I am a 38 year old civil/structural engineer with near 4 years experience (yes I went back to school later in life). I currently work in Chicago IL, USA. I am in the very first stages of this journey. My first problem is selling my house. I got caught up in the whole usa housing debachle and getting this albatross off my neck may be the biggest obstacle. Also my medicals. I am overweight but am dieting now/exercising/trying to quit smoking, in order to get all my ducks in a row. Any of you guys engineers out there? Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated. In all my research of this and other sites, I believe NZ may be just what I am looking for in my less than satisfying life. I commute 1.5 hrs each way to work on the train, this is getting ridiculous. I also am not a big believer in "the American way" of consume consume consume pollute f the environment work get rich blah blah blah. As you can see I have become disillusioned with American society and believe I am ready to take this plunge. NZ seems like a very viable option for me. I have always been an adventurous type, able to get up and move on a whim, and I haven't really regretted it yet. So any fellow engineers with my amount of experience or any one at all who has advice or just a kind word, I would love to hear from you!!!
:cheers
