Auckland Zoo

Have just been looking online at the Zoo, the entry price and annual price seems really reasonable. We were members of Marwell Zoo in the UK as it was just up the road and got loads of use out of it.
So what's Auckland Zoo like? Is it a good day out?

I think it's a great Zoo. A good day out with interesting exhibits and enclosures. I particularly liked the kiwis. It's not as big as Chester, probably slightly smaller than London.
They are progressive in ideas and have an active conservation programme outside of the Zoo. They have plans for a New Zealand section which I think will be great.
They also do night safaris which I fancy trying next.

Yup it's a fun place to visit - with or without kids.
There's three tiger cubs out just now as well :D

Small, nice enough if you have a couple of hours to kill certainly wouldn't plan on spending a whole day there.

Good day out. Doesn't quite fill up a whole day in the way that Chester zoo can, but pleasantly laid out and kid friendly.
Same goes for Hamilton Zoo.
We did Welly zoo a few years go too. Smallest of the three. we were only there a couple of hours but saw most of it.

We got the year passes for Auckland Zoo and they pay for themselves in no time, as you also get money off gift shop, cafe and special events like concerts.
All my 3 love it there and as we have the passes we tend to go a lot more often.
Its main downside is it can sometimes be difficult to park or you have to queue for ages for food at the cafe, especially in school holidays.
It was Jub Jub who first told me about the passes - best tip she's ever given me! :D
Cheers

Good to hear because my mum wants to go to Auckland Zoo when she comes over in the new year. With it being on the TV in the UK she can't wait to see it. Good to hear too that it won't take a full day.

Our NZ family also have passes for Auckland Zoo, and we've been when we were over there. It's a great place to go, and the talks and events are very well done.
Ever since she could walk, my granddaughter goes right up to the glass in the shelter from which you can view the tiger enclosure. She LOOKS at the tigers, and one of them will wake up and come over and look right into her face on the other side of the window.

Yup, cafe gets very busy.... and I am glad to be of assistance! :laugh..
I love my annual pass, cos if you get there and it starts to rain heavily, or kidlet just isnt in the mood once you arrive, you can spend half an hour, turn round and come home again!
It is a very pleasant walk round, think you would struggle to spend allll day there but it can certainly last till after lunch, so take a picnic as there are some nice places to sit.
they are constantly working on the zoo, new enclosures etc, and if you time it right you can feed a giraffe at one of the several animal encounters they have with the keepers.
to pass an extra half hour, you can nip outside and have a ride on the MOTAT tram, only costs $1.
