Hi Everybody
I'm Henry Faltson and I'm from Malta. I'm interested in potential migration in the coming years, and I'm very intertested in New zealand for several reason that i'll try to expand further in the near future.
I guess Maltese in NZ are a rare breed.
Thanks for accepting me.

Definatley the North Island, we see potential in Hamilton. Auckland might be great but too fast for a family. I'm reading my Masters Degree (Engineering) right now and my wife is a Chartered Accountant (ACCA), so I guess we might make it when our idea matures.
Obviously sea-side towns are interesting after all I'm surrounded with the Mediterranian sea by 360 degrees, but there is a catch with these places in the they might lack advanced industry (for my job) or have housing at a premium. Also sea-side areas develop a "run for costal development" often rendenring the place geograpgically handicapped for commuting, etc. Too high a price to see that thin blue line.
However I exclude nothing, and I'm open you all your ideas.

Hello, Henry, and welcome.:)
Auckland might be great but too fast for a family. It may be worth checking in more detail, if that's where the most opportunities are that suit you. There are places around Auckland that you can live with a family, far enough out from the centre that it's pleasant and not stressful, and yet near enough that the adults can easily travel to work in the business area(s). And nowhere are you far from the sea.

I'm interested to know more about Auckland. Form Google earth it definately looks a bit built-up. On-line newspapers do not help the Auckland image either. Narcotics and shoot outs appear in many headlines. Some areas seem no-go-zones or sorth of. Malta is a very over poppulated place but extremely low crime rate (although experts say this is set to increase) so I do not want any regrets. Which areas of Auckland are most family friendly?

I wrote this about Auckland on a thread some time ago. It might give you a start. Then no doubt others will be along to tell you their experiences as residents in different areas. Our family live very happily in Titirangi. We rented last year in Henderson Valley (and the house was, illogically, on the top of a mountain ridge!). Kiwi relatives were/are in Devonport, and Takapuna, and Dairy Flats, and Howick.
I suggest you go to this link http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl then call up 'Auckland NZ'. Then zoom out till you can see Torbay in the north and Manukau City in the south - this is all Auckland. Then make sure you're looking at the aerial photos. Notice the green and blue? Apart from in the very tight downtown district, this beautiful green and blue are everywhere, in gardens and parks and areas of native bush. The place is built on mountain-tops, and yet minutes from the sea. It's different from anywhere else. Zoom in close on the different centres - and in between.
You could also go to http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-property/index.htm and have a look at a few of the homes listed under 'Auckland'. Most properties have photos of the surroundings and views, as well as the interior.
You'll gather that what I'm saying is there is peace and nature and a lot of space even WITHIN the city boundaries.

Hi JandM
I understand you reply daily to mundane questions such as my own, so quoting past postings is a sensible reply which suits me fine. I'll follow up your very interesting leads. You are definately encouraging an interesting perspective of Auckland. Can you lead me to find someting more about the city's climate?
thanks for your replies.
