Hi-
I have a question. On the EOI there is a question about having had a ticket for drinking and driving in the past 5 years. I had 1 a couple years ago in USA. It doesnt say this will exclude me, the exclusion factors were 5 years imprisoned etc. I know this was a STUPID STUPID mistake, and I have learned my lesson so please don't flame me. I just would like to know if this is a dealbreaker.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Not sure if it will be a deal breaker but you have to answer yes to question B13. Not sure if you were convicted because questions B11 and B12 asks that as well. We all make mistakes. But if you do not mention it on the EOI, it will show up on your FBI Background check when you get to that point. Better to be honest now. Good luck. :nice1

Not sure. If your work is on the Immediate Shortage Skills List or Long Term Skills List, having a degree and/or having a job offers helps a lot. I cannot answer for sure how your DUI charge will affect your selection. Maybe someone on the forum may have experience with it or an answer. But I do know you have to claim it on your EOI.

As mentioned, your only option is to list it and hope for the best. I am not sure your job skills will make a difference. I remember a friend immigrating from US to Canada who didnt mention her DUI (well she thought since it wasnt a criminal offence in US it didnt matter.... But it is very much a criminal offence in Canada and in NZ).
Immigration of course found out about the DUI. She got into Canada, but was on a minister's permit for about 8 years, even though she had a Canadian husband and two Canadian kids, Canadian immigration would not give her residence until they were satisfied she had "rehabilitated" herself. So best not to take any chances on this one.

Hi there
As others have said, you should definately decalre it and give a brief explanation in the box at the bottom of the page. You'll not be immediately excluded. You'll have to provide further information at the ITA stage in order that a character waiver can be authorised.
