Hi Ian

I know exactly what you're going through. Sent mine off yesterday, and yes, I put a cover letter in aswell. Don't know how many times I checked the damn thing before it went.

Good luck

StevieD,
You should get a letter in the post any time soon. It basically tells you that you've been selected and they will do some checks to verify the info' contained. Don't know what the timeframe now is for the offer of ITA. Might pay to check on Douglas's spreadsheet on the front page of this site................

Hi Guys,

It must be the week for it - done similar checks to you and sending ours today :yes Great to get the diningroom table back, feels like a massive weight has been taken from our shoulders.

But - will still have trouble sleeping. No longer worrying on whether we'll be able to get all the evidence in, intime for the 'April Medicals deadline', now worrying when we may hear. Soon we hope :hopeso

Will be interresting to see if we get similar processing times. Let's keep eachother posted in this thread about any notifications / interviews etc. Fingers crossed for all.

Me too!
Just sent our ITA off as well.
Marie, thanks very much for the letter. :nice1 :nice1 I edited it quite a bit, but it pointed me in the right direction.
Jo, thanks for the suggestion. :nice1 I used the cover letter (as you suggested) to let the migrant team know I'd like Passports back ASAP (without Mirant levy being paid). I enclosed a pre-paid Special Delivery envelope to make it easy for the case officer to meet my request.

Couple of points I noticed in the final checks, when following the order of documents as listed on the front page of the application, I realised that I had everything out of sync. On closer inspection I found I had been following the list order as described in the seperate letter NZIS has sent me. The two lists contradict each other    ! So I followed the one on the application form, as this was personalised e.g telling me I didn't need to prove English language skills (questionable  considering my Janner accent!)
Secondly, I've seen other members referring to their case officers. We haven't had one assigned yet - is that normal? My application pack letter had an illegible signature with the legend 'Administrator' typed below.
Cheers,
John.
PS I like your idea Babette. It'll be good comparison/support seeing as we're all submitting so close together.

Hello again all

NZIS would appear to be looking at my ITA. Status change on site.....Now reads " Application recieved ". First saw the change 13:00hrs on 09/03/05. Hopefully, I won't have to wait too long for a phone call. :hopeso

John (as in debnjohn) - yes, that's normal. We were assigned a (nice!) case officer after ITA receipt. We first found out who it was from her first e-mail to us which we received two weeks after our application was received.

By the by, you may see somewhat puzzling accounts here of folks who seem to have case officers assigned at other stages (which they do, for various reasons).... but on the whole what you are reporting is the most common experience.

Cheers,
Matt.

Just a little update on our ITA.
Sent it by Special Delivery last Thursday morning. Checked Post Office website on Friday to see that it had arrived at New Zealand House 9.40am
Friday. Checked NZIS website a zillion times on Friday to see if our status had changed from 'Successful', but no luck so have fretted all weekend - the envelope was bulging and I had visions of it bursting open.
Checked on NZIS this morning and we have changed status to 'Application Received' ! :nice1

Wow John that has happened quickly. Just remind me how many points you have, do you have a job-offer and what line of work are you in?

We've received the 'standard' acknowledgement letter today - 'Case officer will be assigned and you will be contacted within 2-4 months'
Hope we'll hear sooner than that though - Andy's having kittens :laugh

Best of luck for Friday :nice1

Copied from " What a day " thread. Just to keep this thread up to date.

Interview was brought forward from friday to today.

All questions as previously stated on other threads were asked and were answered in the way I thought best.
At the end I was asked if I had any questions. I asked " what happens now " and " How long before I know anything." I was told that there are 3 options open to me:

1) Decline application
2) Approve application - Work to Residence visa
3) " " - Residence Visa

CO then said " Option 1, it's not an option, you'll be hearing the good news officially in around 2 weeks once it's been re-checked by someone else. Congratulations. "

Hi all,

Ian

Ian,
We haven't got a case officer either yet. I emailed NZIS last night to enquire how long they would need my passport (as I plan to visit NZ in April), and they emailed back first thing this morning offering to post it back today. However, NZIS are keeping the other passports (wife & boys) and will need mine back again if we are successful (migrant levy still to be paid). I asked if the correspondence was from a case officer, again very quick reply 'unfortunateley not'. :wah
Patience is a virtue (so I am told)

bosh !! of it goes.
after 5 months of reading posts on this site, and form filling im finally putting in my completed i.t.a , i have everything they asked for , apart from a c.n.c.c from hongkong, which hongkong said they sent direct to nzis wellington and wellington swear blind they didnt receive. it was registered so hope they will find it .

another bricklayer out here got his i.t.a processed in one week (received his approval in principal letter then passports) , he was told the guy who puts the p.r in the passports is only parttime and works 2 day weeks , brings to mind lill dude in an office with a candle and a rubber stamp from captain cooks days !

hope it all goes through quick as going to report my current employer (he is acredited) for ripping me off and not having any work.

good luck to anyone else in the same position keep pluggin away :nice1

Oh, the waiting, the waiting!
Last item of interest for us was the update on NZIS website to 'Application Received', and this happened 3 WEEKS AGO !
I know we've had Easter in-between, and a large volume of applications because of the change to medicals, but I'm still going stir-crazy :wah
Any advice, anyone, PLEEEEASE ?

John - I can only think that the thing to focus on is that they do have all your papers and that they do seem to have a pretty careful queueing system. Above all, they know that your papers are extrememly vaulable so I am sure their queuing system is more or less watertight.

In other words, it probably is just a matter of a few more days or hours.
But, golly, I know how hard it is to wait.

But give it a few more days before you start to make enquiries, unless (which I seriously doubt) your gut instinct is so overpoweringly strong that something is 'up' that you want to make enquiries right now.

But also see my PM to you. :nice1

All the best,
Matt.

At last first contact with NZIS in London, now got a case officer assigned.

Any tips ?? anyone ??

Ian

MB
6th April 2005, 04:18 AM
Ian - just a few tips.

- try to have concrete details to hand: just a few numbers, names and persentages go a long way. e.g., it's pretty good to say "I've researched housing prices for city X on the 'Web", but better to say - without it taking much more research time -- "I've been in touch with estate agent Jane Smith for rentals and John Jones for sales. They personally know our basic details and have assured us that stuff in our price bracket comes on the market regularly". Or whatever.

- show you're realistic about your expectations of NZ. That is, that you've done your homework re. likely wages, weather conditions, prices of goods, etc.

- if anything substantial in your past has helped you understand the practical and emotional practicalities of moving to a new country (e.g., months-long job postings or family experiences), mention it as long as you don't have such a colourful travel background that you might sound like a jet-hopping "visa collector" ( :laugh ).

- your interviewer's human, and might have valuable tips. E.g., if they're a Kiwi, what's it like for them to be away for many months at a time? Clearly you don't want to get touchy-feely or obseqious, but these guys aren't just machines.

You'll do GREAT. :nice1

Cheers,
Matt.

As always, good advise there Matt :clap

Ian - looks like we're following the same timeline - we've got our interview at 10am.

If you're feeling a bit nervous (not unlike my hubby :? ), and think you need some encouragement, PM me your (work?) phone number and I'll ask Andy to give you a call once he's off the phone. He'll then be able to give you an idea of the questions he was asked.

In any case, I'm sure you'll be fine. Be yourself, answer honestly and think lots of positive thoughts :nice1

Thinking of you.

To be specific:

All went well.

Good luck to all those facing telephone interviews, but try not to worry - if you've got this far then they WANT you to emigrate.

Well done John.
See, it wasn't that bad was it now, but bet you're glad its done. Seems the wait and find out in 2 / 3 weeks is pretty standard, thats what I was told aswell and it ended up for me just over the 3 weeks.

Well worth the wait though :nice1
