From what I've read, it would appear that employers in New Zealand seem to attach far more 'significance' to an applicant's qualifications compared to employers in the UK.

Is that a fair comment, or too much of a generalisation?

Has anyone come across this (in either a positive or negative way) whilst trying to get a job in NZ?

Cheers,
Pete.

I haven't found this to be the case at all. I only have secondary school quals and work in jobs that advertise with tertiary education as a requirement. I apply, my CV doesn't mention quals and nobody ever asks me about them and I usually get the job (IT contracting) I have even worked in education and nobody's ever asked.... I have found this to be surprising to say the least and have heard about other people being rejected due to a lack of relevant education but have never personally experienced that. OH does have a uni degree but never gets asked for any form of proof either nor gets any questions. I guess being (slightly!) older and having a lot of relevant experience makes up for it?
It might also depend what area of work you're looking at?
