Hi all,

I submitted my application for PR (partnership) about a month ago, and have been waiting for something to happen. Well something has, but not to do with NZIS!

My wife has been offered a job in Wellington, she accepted, so we are definately on our way! :clap

I handed my notice in at work yesterday, and confirmed leaving date for start of Jan. We're then going to spend a month in South America, and arrive in NZ at the start of Feb. We'll spend a week with her family in Christchurch, and then head to Wellington.

She's going to start work straight away whilst I get us a rental house sorted - we'll stay with a family friend for the first week or two whilst I am looking for something more permanent - and apply for jobs. If the PR doesn't happen in time, I'll enter on a tourist visa (make sure I get a refundable return flight!) and then apply for a temp work visa so that I can start working. If PR arrives, then one less thing to worry about!

Does anyone know if NZIS will be OK with this plan? What are the chances of gettting the temp work visa whilst I have outstanding PR application?

Also, would be really interested to meet up with people based in Wellington. Looked through, and appears as if meetings take place quite regularily, and everyone seems so friendly. Would be good to have some people who know what it's like to emmigrate when we arrive.

Cheers,
gbFunk

Generally applications for PR under the Partnership Category are approved within a reasonable time frame. My husband's application time frame was 3 months and 9 days from beginning to approval ( this was in USA).
We leave for New Zealand in just 25 days.

Good luck.

You should not having any trouble applying for a work visa under Partnership with your partnership application already in the system.

That is so good to hear because the lady here said that permits through DC take 12 - 15 months .. i wondered if she meant weeks

Yes, I do believe she got weeks and months mixed up. I was told that through DC it would take about 4 weeks to get a work visa/permit. That was a year ago.

canajanz....what sort of permit are you referring to?.My husband applied for PR under the Partnership Category. Washington DC is fairly quick in processing applications for PR under the Partnership Category providing all relevant information for the application is in place and your medical and police checks are ok. The only time the processing time may slow down a bit is when they are caught up in processing Student Visas.

under partnership ... :no I had not considered the student visa factor. They may well run into that as the school year start is Feb and they were planning to come in time for that.
