If my wife and i are eventually granted residency with job offer, how long will we have to take up the offer before it runs out, anyone?

Hi,

We gained PR as a skilled migrant with a job offer (OH as main applicant), and there is a notice on all of our visas under the conditions section stating that "the holder must take up the offer of employment within 3 months of the grant of the first residence permit and remaun in that employment for a period of at least 3 months" This is to comply with the section 18a of the immigration Act.

So, my OH went to NZ to start work, and I will follow with DD later when everything here is organised.

Hope this helps,
Claire

You have 12 months from the time that you get the blue stickers in your passport until the visa must be activated by arriving in NZ.

But surely it would be how long will your employer hold the job offer open for.

I think the 12 month only applies if you do NOT have a job offer, pretty sure its 3 months.

Sorry, pretty sure it is NOT.

If you have a section 18A against your PR then you have 3 months to take up the job offer on entering NZ and being granted your permit.

You still have 12 months before you have to arrive in NZ and activate your visa.

My apologies, you are correct. The site does say 3 months from when you receive your permit, which as you say (but the site does not) is given when you arrive on your 12 month visa.

PS: I capitalised the NOT to be sure it was seen, I wasn't being an ass.

Ali - We have PR under the skilled migrant cat, with a job offer.

Ian - You are probably right. The VISA states that from the first resident PERMIT my OH must work in the job he got within 3 months for 3 months minimum. The visa is just what you get in order to get to NZ right? And a permit is given to you when you arrive? I hope that makes sense, I think I am confusung myself! :exit

No problem, I assumed that you were just highlighting the important word, as was I :nice1

And yes you are correct, your time starts when you receive your permit which of course you get when you arrive on NZ soil.

You don't sound confused, your explanation of a visa and a permit is spot on :clap.
