Hi All
We have just received our ITA under the Skilled Migrant category
We have already received 1 year work visa's as my wife has a job offer for Wellington hospital
I would be interested in knowing if its easier / cheaper to complete and send the ITA whilst we are still in the UK ( we fly out on the 28th October!) or should we wait until we arrive in NZ ?
Are Medicals etc cheaper in NZ ? Is the process quicker once in NZ ?
Any advice gratefully received

i would definitely suggest making sure you have any documents you need for the ITA before you set off (police check etc) but you don't have a lot of time before you go so you may be better off waiting until you arrive before starting - depends how ready you are to submit I guess :)

As you already have your ITA in the UK, then I would say that if you are ready to submit it then I would do so (if for no other reason but to get it out of the way).

For medicals, our experience (had medicals in UK and NZ) is that although medicals were cheaper in NZ (not significantly so) they were also more detailed. So from our experience, if you have medicals in NZ then they are more likely to find a problem that requires additional testing (and thus costs).

That was just our experience of course and would no doubt vary by doctor?

From a time perspective, our PR application in NZ took a lot longer than it would have taken in the UK. Again, don't know if it was just the time of the year or that there is no rush to process you if you are already in NZ. PR times do vary a lot in UK and NZ so may just be our experience.

As your timescales are now very tight, I would probably try to talk to your CO to see what they would actually recommend. After all, they will no doubt have to transfer your application to NZ anyway so it may make more sense for you to carry your application with you.

I've been following this forum for a few months now and have applied for an ITA from Auckland. In terms of time to process, I do feel it seems to get prcoessed way faster when you apply in UK. Like someone else said, not sure whether it is the time of the year or something else. It seems the wait is much longer when you apply here in Auckland. Not sure what it is like from another city in NZ.

But since you're leaving soon, maybe its best to discuss it with your CO...

Hi Gazza1000
congratulations on your wife getting a job at Welly hospital I have been here 3 weeks now and loving it, having worked for 20 years in Health in the uk itis a refreshing change, I have submitted my PR in the UK as I already had all the docs from my temp visa I have WTR for 2.5 years it also meant less paper work to haul on the plane!
good luck

Hi Jane
Did you have to submit all the info again with the ITA / PR application that you had sent with the WTR application eg; passports, police checks, qualifications , course details ?
Which area are you working in at Welly hospital ? My wife worked there earlier in the year for a few weeks & loved it too and couldnt get over the appreciation she got for the work she did unlike the NHS ! I'll get my OH to look out for you when we finally get there !

Hi Gary
I work in the Coo's office in Finance, i agree I have far more professional respect here! No we didn't have to resubmit everything except the medicals. I did have copies which I wrote on originals with WTR app no xxxxxx I have not sent my passports yet as I needed them to travel and have needed them a lot since we have been here. I sent them certified copies instead which they were happy for.
