but this had not been something we had factored in. I'm the principal applicant, and am claiming for counsellor nec as my skill. We had our EOI rejected due to my claiming for work experience and it not being full time (which I didn't realise was the case), but having given them an hour by hour account they deducted some points, put us back into the pool, promptly re-selected us and offered us our ITA!
With me so far?? ;) So we arrived on visitors visas, having sold our house in UK, and we knew this was a big risk as we didn't even have our ITA at that point. Such was our determination to be here we were prepared to jump.
Since having the ITA offered I've got a job and a 2 year work permit as a counsellor, which has meant OH has got an open work permit for 2 years also. Daughter is settled in school, still on visitors visa though, which school were OK about.
Now we have had a letter from NZIS saying that my Advanced Diploma doesn't entitle me to being classed as a counsellor  Seems I have to have gained a bachelors for the ANZCO criteria to be used.
But I'm here, about to buy a house, am working full time in mental health, husband just got a full time job also, so what do we do now?? :uhoh
Plan to go to the NZIS branch here in Dunedin and see what we can sort out, although I'm thinking we may have to apply for a student's visa for daughter to carry on her schooling, whilst we work on our work permits, or do they become invalid becuase of this?
So if anyone passes by Dunedin NZIS tomorrow morning about 8am and you see a man with white hair and a red face that'll be my dear husband trying to not blow.
Any wise words on this would be great, but right now a cup of tea and some chocolate will be soothing ;)

Genie - Yorkshire lass, dig in and go for a reassessment. Flipping NZQA can be very pedantic and don't tend to look further than the tickable boxes. OH has to do the NZ version of his ECB cricket level 2 coaching award because it doesn't fit even though it's far more advanced than the NZ level 2.
I suspect the Advanced Dip way above what is on offer here. You're here - make sure you stay here. Best of luck.

I wouldn't worry about all this too much.
You still have your 2 year work permits which won't change regardless of your current ITA issues.
You do of course need to get your daughter a student visa, so would try to sort this out as soon as possible.
I would go and talk with NZIS to see what the next steps are, but find it hard to believe that with a job in NZ that you won't have enough points for PR and even if you don't, then you are now getting NZ work experience which will also gain you points. If you still don't have enough points then ask them what the options are e.g. WTR etc.
They may have said that you can't claim points for being a counsellor, but do you need these points? They will routinely tell you that points can't be claimed. It doesn't always mean that your ITA will no longer be processed.
Have you asked your employer if they can help get it sorted?

Thanks for that guys, I really appreciate the support.
We've talked about plan B as getting student visa for DD as her visitors visa will run out in December :exit
The great thing is I'm about to start a bachelors in social services course, at the year 3 stage as Otago Poly have assessed me at a level 6 Diploma, not 5 as NZQA did. So I'll have my bachelors degree next year anyway.
Where there's a will there's a way!! :yes :D

Quite a story. We're having some trepidation about some of the stories we've been hearing lately. We've got our work to residency offer from our PR application and have heard that immigration is getting a lot more fussy about the "clicking the boxes" issues you've encountered. Keep us posted and good luck!
