.......and other Kiwiisms have been creeping, unbidden, into my vocabulary of late :uhoh ....catch-all phrases, which generally mean everything & nothing in particular...."good as gold" ( my Gran used to say this..), "sweet as", "noice!", "true" and, my all-time fave, "yeeah, naah" :)
And, despite my best attempts at keeping it in check, I've noticed a certain tendency to end all my sentences with a question? And a rising intonation? Like this?

But it's all good......eh?

What's really sad is I'm finding myself using some Kiwi expressions, and I'm not even there yet. I'm sure they all come from reading your posts.

Actually, I don't know for sure if they are Kiwi, or Brittish. I told one of my sons "Good on you" the other day. My wife looked at me oddly.

Apparantly......according to my mate Julie - when I am teaching I sound completely different to when I'm a "normal" person.....

Must be something to do with getting the laaads and lassies to understand me like.
(And spelling tests are a nightmare....they keep getting them wrong because I say them different!!!!!)

I just got off the phone to a Kiwi buddy and his parting words were..."yeeah, naah it's all good, eh...aw yeeah...sweet..."
He can get through whole conversations like this too.... :laugh

"yeeah, naah" is so damn handy though don't you think?

Try it next time someone asks your opinion on something...and if you add "it's all good, eh?" on the end, you've covered all bases & even asked a question yourself...

Dave your thread is cracking me up.
:laugh
i'm just getting over how many yeah's they put in one sentance, as if you didn't hear the first time. and then you get one for each word you say so as your talking your getting constant agreement in the form of Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah....... and a final Yeeeahhhh to emphasie the point that little extra.
It good that they agree though :nice1

My Hubbie & I are Kiwi's & your post Reminds me of when we used to live in Australia.
My OH still has an Aussie accent and we haven't lived there for over 10 years. Imagine saying "Better than a slap in the face with a dead Mullet" :laugh , "you wouldn't be dead for quids" :laugh etc
When I lived in the Uk I picked up all sorts of words too. So I guess you will all eventually pick up some of the kiwi sayings.

All of the above expressions are so familiar.

Being married to a Kiwi for 16 years these expressions are just common place in our conversations. Even my 7 year old son puts 'yeah' before, between and after averything ....... and we're still in the UK.

"I'd better rattle me dags and be off" jumped into my head as I was heading out the door to work this morning. What a mental image! Who cares about being late when you're thinking about a poopy sheep. The analog to dag around here is dingleberry. Dingleberry. He he he. Sometimes I think there's a 13 year old boy trapped inside my head

My 12year old has taken to punctuating every sentence with...Riiiiight, but I'm not sure if this is a kiwi thing. I'm sure she never did it in the UK though.
