EOI without critical job experience

I am working the on-line EOI (anticipate 115-125 points) but have no skills / experience in the NZ demand catagories. The job expereince (sales, real estate and insurance benefits) appear to have no points. I see the posted fortnight EOI results and see the bottom catatgory maybe where I may fit in.....

I guess the confusing part of the EOI is the skilled migrant catagory. Although I am skilled it appears my skill is not on the NZ migrant list and that's ok????

Any member with simialr EOI stats and received ITR? And then successful?

Am I looking at the WTR Work to Residence route?

The wife (applicant) has bachelors degree with honors (I understand honors may get more points?) in Organizational Leadership and I (partner) a masters degree in Organizatinal Management.

Cheers -:D

Hi there,

You can still apply even though your work may not be on the Shortage Lists. If I understand it correctly, you can claim your education (yours and your wife's) but because you are not working in the field you went to school for (I assume?), you cannot claim the BONUS points. The bonus point section is definitely on the EOI. You do claim your work experience on the EOI as well.

Also, if I understand correctly, the Work To Residence (WTR) is only applicable if you have a job offer. I am sure someone will come along and will have more information about the WTR route.

Hope this helps and good luck! :nice1

Hello

Based on my interpretation of the INZ website I believe that you can still claim basic points for your qualifications & work experience which might get you up to the 115 points needed for the latest selections. But previous poster is right I think, you can only claim BONUS points if you have the quals and work experience in one of the areas of absolute skills shortage or other specialist areas (I forget what they are called - future growth areas I think).
So if you forget all about the bonus points, and you can still get up to 115 points, then you should be ok. You don't have to claim bonus points to be accepted (it's just easier if you do)

One of you can only be the main applicant so I would choose the one with the most points (sorry, stating the obvious). I think first you should get your degrees assessed by NZQA because honours/masters get different points depending on where you got them from, for example, I have a friend with an honours degree from the UK and she got level 7 but my OH has an honours degree from South Africa where the structuring is slightly different and he got level 8.

I think you start out by applying for the skilled migrant route and if they are not convinced that you will settle in NZ ok they may offer you a WTR route where you have a limited time to go over and find a job. At least that seems to have happened to quite a few on this site that did not have a job offer when they applied. I guess job offer means that you are more likely to be self sustaining so you can get PR straight away but no job offer means you have to prove to them that you can settle ok - hence WTR and not residence from the start.

Hope that helps a bit

I think it is called skilled migrant as you get points for skills, whether they are on the shortage lists or not. And the above posters are correct as to EOI and WTR:)
