Hi All,

Super site for info gathering!

We're thinking of moving to NZ in the coming year. I'm a bit confused as to the best way to approach this. Obviously permanent residency seems to be best, but neither myself or wife are degree qualified. I have over 10 years experience in the IT field which should help, along with a ton of professional qualification which probably won't be recognised by NZQA!.

Is not having a degree likely to a be a real show stopper?

I was thinking of submitting an EOI and also applying for the working holiday visa at the same time which lasts up to 23 months. In that way we could go over quite quickly and take some casual work while chasing down some proper jobs which would maybe help us get or PR visa.

Does sound like a sensible approach? Typically how long do these processes take from?

Cheers.

Didn't stop our show :nice1 Helps with points but your job type, experience and any Diplomas you might have all add up.

Can't help on the WHV I'm afraid, I'm sure someone will be along to answer that shortly...

We came on a visitor visa and applied for a work permit once we were here and had a job offer. After a year when we applied for PR, we didn't even have to use OH City and
Guilds we had enough points with his work experience and job. (which included 12 months of NZ work experience)

Welcome

I had over 10 years IT and no degree and we managed to get PR. Your alternative plan is also valid.

Good luck.

Hi,

So did you just go the standard route of EoI and the ITA? Did you use any of your professional IT qualifications to help boost your chances?

Where do you live at the moment? I was hired after 4 phone interviews without meeting my (accredited) employer. :nice1 I'm in IT and have a degree but not an IT one. I had 115 points and was languishing in the EOI pool, but as soon as I came here with my job offer (contract didn't show up soon enough for me to get my work visa / permit before we left the US), I put in a new EOI the evening of the day I started work (on a work permit) and had a whopping great 210 points yay! :D
