I've noticed a few references about or by graphic designers and wondered what your experiences have been so far.
First off, I have to say that I love the idea that our profession is in short-term and long-term demand! :cool Not typically the case anywhere I've lived so far though I must admit I've had very good luck.
OK, at any rate, I've really been concentrating on looking and virtually "exploring" Wellington. But it seems like most of the interesting positions (creative director, art director, etc.) are in Auckland or at least the north end of the island. Is that your impression too or am I just looking at the wrong sites? (seek.co.nz, plus a couple of recruiting companies) So, now I think I need to expand my search to include those.
My logic is: companies are more likely to work with you long-distance or consider a soon-to-be-immigrant for a more senior level situation than they are for a basic one.
Truth be told, compared to where I'm at now, Auckland doesn't seem as expensive as I thought. ( Except housing but we'd rather rent for the first year or so until we have a better idea of where to settle anyhow.) And the public transportation seems easy to access.
Please feel free to toss in observations on other issues related to the creative fields. This just happens to be the one I've been pondering since yesterday. :?
