Just found out today that our EOI has been declined. Have been advised by NZIS that we can apply for WTR visa as OH's job offer is with an accredited employer. Has anyone any idea of the negatives associated with WTR ie. schooling ,healthcare, buying property etc. or does it not make much difference, apart from the fact that you can only apply for PR after 2 years.
Approx. hoe long does it take to get . Any info will be much appreciated:nice1

As far as I know WTR is the same as PR for schooling, healthcare and so on. Might be a bit different for attending university as to costs and such but otherwise fairly similar in terms of benefits and outcome. I think you need more of a deposit (20% instead of 5-10%)when buying property but not totally sure. I think WTRs tend to be a bit faster than PR as well?

Sorry to hear that your EOI has been declined. I don't know much about WTR and PR rules, but have a couple of questions, if you do not mind.

How many points did you have when you submitted your EOI? Did they give you any reason why they declined your EOI? I am about to submit my EOI and worried about too many things.

My EOI was rejected and I came over on the WTR visa. It was a fairly quick process...took a couple of weeks. Good luck with everything. :)

Pretty much the same info as already posted by others.

I am assuming that you are talking about applying for a 30 month WTR.

There is no difference for schooling between PR and WTR, for WTR you need to get your children student visas.

If your children will be attending tertiary education e.g. Universities that they will have to pay international fees on a WTR whilst they would pay domestic fees on a PR.

Healthcare is no different as long as the visa is at least two years or more. However, it is not so well known that you are covered in exactly the same way so you need to be aware that the healthcare provider may attempt to charge you.

Buying property on a WTR, they would prefer at least a 20% deposit.

Taking out any loans etc on a WTR, they will only normally allow the length of loan to be less than (or equal to) the length left on your visa.

If you gain enough points to apply for a PR before the 2 years is up e.g. by gaining NZ work experience, then you can apply sooner i.e. you do not need to wait the full 2 years.

We thought we had 160 points , but according to NZIS miscalculated, OH shoould of had his trade assessed by NZQA. I'm an RGN myself and haven't yet applied for registration, as was waiting to see if OH got a job offer. So even though he has a job offer his job is not on the LSS list, so noe onto plan B ie. WTR, but at least according to the replies I've had it doesn't sound too big a deal.
Thanks to all who replyed to my query . It puts my mind at ease.:nice1

Our EOI was denied as well... Our CO is keeping it open while we're getting everything assessed by NZQA

Keep your hopes up! You'll get there!

Your location says USA, so I assumed that you got your degree(s) and work experience in the US. I have heard that people who recieved their degree from a US university does not have to go through NZQA.

What are the things that NZQA assessing?

I have a Bachelors - but OH is primary... He has sound certificates (THX and ... something else...) that he is getting assessed right now..

My college is on the list so I wouldn't have a problem (that's Plan C)

I learned your Plan A and C, but what is Plan B? If you do not want to tell, that's totally fine and please ignore my question.

Just a point that i don't think anyone else has covered. Unless you are PR or citizen you can't get the Kiwisaver pension scheme.

Whether any pension scheme is worth joing right now is another question and you could always join a private one here.

Also the 'clock' towards citizenship (whihc is now 5 years) won't start ticking until you get PR.....in case that's what you're ultimately after.

Cheers

Plan A = OH as Primary

Plan B = OH goes with BUNAC and I go with WHV... then once in NZ - start PR process over again

Plan C = Me as Primary (If I remember correctly I would have about 115 points...)
