Hello guys,
Trying to look for suitable accommodations for husband and I, we are moving to Wellington 2nd November. I've been on Trademe almost everyday but people are telling me to wait until we're in Wellington to do oculars because photos on the websites could be deceiving.
Anyway, we are moving with a cat, will it be hard for us to look for a place to stay with a pet with us?
Which rental agencies would you recommend us to use?
Thanks a lot.
Stressed,
Stephanie

finding accomodation when you have a cat is far easier than if you had a dog in wellington. generally they will say "no pets" but this is often up for negotiation. some ads say "one cat ok" for example.
maybe say, the week before you move you could start contacting people about viewing properties. i would imagine you are coming at a good time as there may be more properties available as the uni year is over (not all students live in digs! :) ) and there may also be short term leases over summer if that suits.
you can get away with not using rental agencies but i've heard ok things about quinovic. depends on the actual person you deal with most of the time anyway! and you'll find they advertise on trademe anyway.

this is very, very true.
Also be aware of the different types of rental agreement that there are ie periodic and fixed-term. One final caveat, watch out for the small print. Read the sections around rent reviews very carefully. Be aware that if you sign for a 12 month leae, your rent may be (legally)increased after a certain period, (six months) with no negotiation. ie you sign at $500 a month for a year. The small print allows Quinovic to 'review' your rent and put this figure up to whatever they like after 6 months.... ccould be $750 per moth.
Of course they have to give you due notice, however there's not much you can do as you are locked in on the agreement. If you decide to up sticks, you are still liable for the rent until a new tenant is found.

We have been here 6 weeks now and moved in to our permanent rental 2 weeks ago, we also have a cat and was worried it was going to be a big problem, the rental agents Quinnovic in Johnsonville said 4 us to look at all the rentals on offer, even the ones that said no pets as most people will accept a cat, they are not so keen on dogs.
Please look at rentals when you get out here as what you see on trademe pics is not always what its really like, although i must say that i had been looking at the rental we are in at the moment for a long time before we came out.We are in Newlands right at the top of the hill. the scenery from our lounge windows are awesome, all the way from the hutt valley down to the airport, i asked people what Newlands was like, i got some good advice especially on here :nice1 Yes its very windy up here, but we have Gas heating, double glazed windows, and the heating bills not been as bad as i first thought it would be, and i am a cold mortal lol so have had heating on a lot.
If there are any rentals you like the look of in welly just give us a PM would be happy to look at them 4 u, as not working at the moment ( will have to give up being a lady of leisure soon though) but would say ask these guys that have been i Welly a while, about the different areas, as areas that we looked at when we came out for our reccie and liked i now know i wouldnt want to live there, it all looks good when you are here on holls, its different living here.
Any how enough of the ramblings, if we can help please let us know, and hope all goes well for you,and have a safe journey.
Steph.

Trademe is a good source to find but again the pictures could be deceptive. Also, about the agencies, it really depends on the individual you are dealing with. We were searching for a house and most of the houses the agents were showing us were the ones that had not got rented for a while. they were really not the ones for us. about a couple weeks ago, We found our house in lower hutt while driving with a friend to view another property..the owners had put a board on the fence "To Rent".. the owners are really nice..it's a "dry and cosy" house.. you will understand how important it is when u come here.. also has a HRV... good sized lawn and the owners are maintaining it. before we moving in, they change us the electric stove and now changing the bathtub as they had promised.. we had not noticed any problem with the bathtub but well we dont mind having a new bath tub... :D all said and done .. it takes me only 25 min to reach my workplace in the city.. so that's really cool.
enuf said.. hope you find a good place to stay.. when u come here just dont depend on the agents / trademe .. you can find a place yourself just we found ours..
cheers
