I keep seeing this location on the map and wonder what it's like?

Anyone live there or know of the area? How far is it in commute (train/car/bus) to the city center, whats the weather like, prices on homes or rentals, etc.

We're in the process of buying a property there. There seems to be a good range of prices in Karori. There are lots of older properties as well as more recently built ones - were buying a new build place.

We're not living there yet, but it is a very popular place to live amongst my colleagues. It will take me about 20 mins by bus to get to the city (Parliament end), but if you live at the end of Karori closer to this city it should take much less. The buses are pretty regular. There are no trains as far as I know. It takes ten minutes from the city by car.

It seems to be a very family friendly place, not that we have kids. There is a basic highstreet with all you need and a NewWorld and Woolworths for food shopping, a library and basic sports cente. The place we are buying is north facing and gets lots of sun. The centre of Karori is quite flat, but the outskirts have elevated sections if you are after views.

Hope this helps.

West Karori is getting out there... a friend of mine lives out there, closer to Makara (do note that's soon going to have a big ole wind farm in it) than Wellington, and she has zero mobile phone coverage. Gorgeous area though, but rather damp and humid.

K&J summed it up very nicely. I don't find Karori the prettiest of places but it still manages to be a very nice area and is well "treed"(plenty of mature trees, not sparse and urban). The bus connection is very good too. I think it is one of the most family friendly places in Wellington as far as house prices, crime, schools and infrastructure are concerned.

Hello all

I am living in Karori myself and love the place.
Why? It is close to town with good public transport, close to the Makara, views on the hills and with good schools (for those with children). I am living in Karori city end so a bit closer to the CBD and most of the time a walk to the office in 40 minutes. This means I do not have to rely on public transport or a car which is nice as well.

Anyone with specific questions around Karori, just drop me a PM.

Cheers

Marco
