Hi all,

Where to start! We are a Canadian family of 4 who, until May 08, had been in NZ for 4 years. We loved it, but felt pressured to return to Canada by family and, admittedly, we were tempted back to North America by the prospect of making better wages. We now deeply regret that decision, miss NZ terribly, and there are plans afoot (much to the horror of our families - though I think they predicted it!) to return to NZ in 2009.

All a terrible turmoil but I understand we aren't the first immigrants to go through such a thing. Fortunately, the kids are taking it all in stride and are leading the charge back down-under!

Hopefully I can be of help to those thinking about a move to NZ, particularly from Canada or the US. NZ is definitely not for everyone, it has it's problems and faults, but it really suited us and feels very much like home.

I would also be interested to hear from any other Kiwis or Kiwi-bound folks in Vancouver. I need someone to watch the rugby with :-)!.

cheers

Hi danw

Welcome. I just sent you message on your profile page. Nice to hear you're moving back down under. We have a lot of friends here who don't understand why. Or, just don't get it, I guess.

:cheers

Hi and welcome. There are heaps of Kiwis in Vancouver, We were part of that Victoria Kiwi group that holds the massive hangi in Metchosin every summer and we get lots of folks heading over from Vancouver. And every rugby team has two or three kiwis.

Hope your move goes well.

Welcome! We're in Chilliwack. I'm a NZ citizen by birth and am going back to university in NZ in February. Now I have a Canadian husband and 4 kids, so their paperwork is alot trickier than mine. But anyway, this messageboard is awesome.

Hi
Good luck with the move back! I look forward to reading more.

We are also a Cdn family (of five) plotting to move back. We last left nz in 2000. It is a place that keeps calling me back! lol

Where will you be settling? Did you keep (or have) residency from before?

We will be Wellington bound if all goes to plan.

Hi Tui2to,

We will be heading to either Christchurch or Wellington. Christchurch has the advantage that we know the city well and I can even get my old job back - the vacancy has yet to be filled! We also know heaps of people in Wellington, and I love that city too, so we'll see. Fortunately we have our residency, including an indefinite returning residents visa. Five years ago, when we first moved to NZ, I remember the immigration process being pretty intense, so glad we don't have to do that again. I feel for many on this forum - hang in there everyone - it's worth it! And the immigration people in NZ are great deal with, in our experience, once you are actually in the country.

cheers
