We joined the rollercoaster today

Finally, after much humming and hawwing we have joined the Rollercoaster ride. :yes
We submitted our EOI today after a review by agents suggested losing a at least 20 points would still give us 120 but make the ITA easier.:nice1
So we have put it in, without job offers, as we keep being told that we will find it easy to find work, and will hopefully do a nice controlled journey (hahahah);)
Now we have to wait until Wednesday and I just hope that the criteria have not changed in the last fortnight.
One good side is that I have had to contact past employers for references for the ITA so I have sent off letters and had two nice phone calls in the past 24 hours, one telling me he'll send me a draft and if I want anything else to let him know and he'll re-do it or give a sworn statement if required as the firm I worked for no longer exists (he was the senior PArtner) and the other giving me a message via his PA to send him a draft and he'll get it printed on paper and sign it...trust after 6 years still...brilliant..and some good catching up with an ex-colleague too. :clap
Now what will we do while we wait??????

Welcome to the rollercoaster - buckle up, it's a hair-raising experience! You sound like you're pretty much in control at the moment. Why did the agaent tell you to lose 20 points? what line of work are you in? Do you need your qualifications assessed - maybe you ought to consider NZQA assessment.
Good luck!

Hi Lockstock
I'm an accountant and with a bit of form filling in & payment I qualify for provisional membership of NZICA which with my degree, which is recognised by NZQA, would give me the qualifications for an Auditor, where I also have 6+ years work experience as well. However, rather than use this for the additional bonus points, our Agent felt better to keep it simple to get through the Visa process which will then require less proof. Unless of course I hit 45 before the ITA gets lodged..which is a possibility...then I will need the points. Currently the only reason I am principle applicant is that I am younger than DH. SHould we both fall into the same bracket it will probably change to who can get a job!
I only sound in control, in reality I am shaking like a leaf, wondering if we are doing the right thing, but looking forward to it, yet dreading it at the same time. Don't know how it will work out in the timescales etc...so many worries...but we will see how it goes.

Hi Mamee & Co
I too am an Accountant, however not Chartered. I have a bachelors degree in Accounting and Auditing and did complete a training contract with a firm of Chartered Accountants. I have got about 6 and a half years auditing experience and have been working as a Financial Controller in the UK for about 12 years. I did claim the 6+ years auditing experience on the EOI but status is still "selected". What advice do you have and what will I need to do re. NZQA and NZICA? I plan to do some studying through the Open Polytechnic in NZ to see if I can convert my degree to a NZ degree.
Thanks in advance

Hi David
I am a member of ICAS which has a reciprocal membership arrangement with NZICA. I can gain associate membership by application and full membership by conversion course passes in tax and Law. However on speaking to our agent he reckoned not to go down the route of claiming skill shortage work experience points for auditing ( which I did for 7 years ). However since 95 I have been working in industry like you although part-time, mostly due to family commitments.
I have therefore not claimed the points for a qualification or work experience on the SSL as it would increase the proof I would require to present to NZIS and our Agent reckoned that even without that we had 120 points which was enough to be selected. My degree was from a recognised institution.
Currently we are in the process of putting the paperwork together for the ITA which we need to submit by mid March. Must remember to sort out the medicals and get photos for the police certs this week!
NZICA have a fairly comprehensive website but if you contact them they may be able to advise what would be required.
