Hi, We've been reading your boards for a few weeks, but just now registered. I'm an RN, and my husband is in IT, and we're hoping to move to NZ next year (summer hopefully). We have two kids, ages 9 and 11, and have just started the process. Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome and good luck! Are you talking about the US summer or the NZ summer?

Welcome to the group! My wife, 7 y/o daughter and I moved from Boulder to Nelson in August. I am in IT (albeit playing a house husband right now) and my wife is a scientist. If we can help with any questions, just let us know.

thanks dilanium...US summer if all goes well.

Hello Dbonnet...we live very close to Boulder (broomfield), and have loved our time here. It's just time to move on. Where is Nelson, and do you like it there? Are you enjoying your time as a house husband, or are you waiting for the perfect IT job to come up? How long have you been in NZ?

We were in Boulder for 14 years & really enjoyed the area but felt the same about it being the right time to move on. We have been in NZ for 2 months (as of today!) but already feel very settled. Nelson is at the top of the South Island near Abel Tasman and Nelson Lakes National Parks. It is a town of around 50,000 (half the size of Boulder) with lots of sports, outdoor activities and arts. Much more mellow than the Front Range - no US-36 to be seen near here :clap Nelson/Tasman is a tourist area with lots of lifestyle immigrants.

I am not really looking for a full time job - may do some consulting part time and investigate other lines of work, but I am pretty much over IT. There are not a lot of standard corporate jobs here, so opportunities for your OH will depend on the type of role he normally fills.

Nelson has been a good match for us, but we are not city dwellers and don't really miss the shopping malls (no Flatiron Crossing anywhere around) or the "bustle" of Lodo. You don't move to Nelson as a career advancement step, you come here to get away from a career. We wanted a good place for our daughter to grow up and for us to be able to slow down and it has met our expectations.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the process or this area or IT work in NZ.

Welcome to the forum, ColoradoClan; hope you find it helpful! I lived in central Denver (Wash Park) for 5 years and still have a house there that I will go back to some day. But I'd say you're making a good move!
