Hello and welcome, Jo. :)

There are lots of people who know about all the technical stuff, who will be along when NZ wakes up later. They're going to want to know what sort of TV you have - make and model.

Welcome to the forum and good luck. NZ is now awake :laugh

TV's, modern ones, can work here as they usually have the system built in. Older sets have to go through a video or DVD player, But most NZ pieces of kit don't have scart so have to use other method. Wait till you get here as LCD's are always on sale and not that expensive now.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Just a quick note on the TV, if you are buying a new one in the UK then be aware that if it comes with an integrated freeview decoder (most do now) that the system used is not compatible with NZ version of freeview.

Hi there and welcome!.

Steve's comments were spot on. You can use any TV if you couple it with a DVD or Video (whats one of those?). In fact a lot of places have Cable or Sky here, and often (because of the hills I guess) the terrestrial system is weak signal. You can also get Freeview boxes (either Terrestrial or Sat) but the programme choice is somewhat limited. Anyway all the above boxes useually are provided with what is called Composite Output (the US equivalent of SCART) so if you do get a TV in the UK make sure it's got this and you should be fine.

I bought a Flat screen LCD 32 inch TV here for $699 (under 250 quid at todays rates)recently. It's a non name brand but the picture quality is excellent and it looks smart. It has both Compsite, AV and Scart inputs so all my UK DVD players and games work.

Don't forget if you buy a TV in the UK, you will have to ship it and insure it, so add that to the price.

Finally - quite honestly the TV here is not as varied as the UK, but does have a lot of UK content (stop watch the soaps now 'cause you'll see all the current episodes again here in about 2 years!) - but if you are like most people I know....you won't be watching it much...there's too much else to do.

All the best

That's just as optomistic as we are, we did exactly the same. Unfortunatly we put the house on the market in June and we still haven't sold:uhoh

I'm just hoping that things will pick up in the new year.

Good luck with your plans.

Hey,

My understanding of it is that modern TV (less than 2yrs old and work on 50 & 60Hz electrical system) are fine, they will also quite happily run on the reduced voltage.

Older ones, won't even create a static!

Good luck

It's not so much the voltage as the PAL standard used, unless the TV can be switched to PAL/B (I think) you will get pictures but no sound. In the South Island the two main channels are broadcast in VHF (not UHF) and I'm not sure if a lot of UK TVs have that tuner at all
