I'm day-dreaming about the kind of car I will get when I pass my driving test... I know I want a small car, and am leaning towards a Toyota Vitz/ Yaris. Does anyone know if there are any other models of small cars like the Vitz that have 4WD?

Subaru Imprezas are fairly small (they do a hatchback) and are 4wd. Not as small as a Yaris/Vitz though.

I think that Subaru made a really small car with 4x4 called the Justy. No idea if it is available in NZ though!

I have a Pajero IO which is brilliant. I love sitting higher up and having 4WD, it's really small and great for parking and reversing ;)

My friend (Kate the one who needed the nana nap!) has just bought a Honda 4x4, which is a small station wagon size, rather than a big SUV type. Bigger than a Honda Jazz/ Toyota Vitz etc, but it's 4x4 and quite nippy for its size.

Mine did.

I now have the bigger version of the Rav4 but the old one was great. Small enough to fit into any park, tight turning circle, decent ride for such a high vehicle and good economy.

OH has a little Daihatsu 4WD, can't think of the model off hand but it's a 2 door 1.4. I'm looking forward to driving Daisy Daihatsu when I come over in February. It will be different, because over here I drive a 1.9tdi Peugeot 306 estate.

OH has always driven little cars & I've always driven fairly big cars (I like powerful cars) :D

Now you are getting me all sentimental. I used to have one, and what a great car that was! Especially the sticker from Haringey Council on the passenger window saying 'Don't leave your litter on the streets,please remove this rubbish within seven working days or else' just added pure class to that fine vehicle.

As for subaru, what year you're planing to get? make sure get the newer model with better immobilizer and safety feature. I have read that some older subarus are theft target. So it might affect the insurance cost...

we have a honda CRV that is 4x4. it is about the same size as a toyota rav4. so far has been a good little SUV...but it will be another story when we try to load it with all our camping gear :uhoh after having a toyota 4runner back in the states.
