Just wondering what the standard is. Mainly for shoes I guess. Will some casual flats be ok or should I invest in some nicer flats or heels?:uhoh

I may have some upcoming interviews (maybe not but I can hope!) and just wondering what interviewers might expect me to be wearing?

A good rule of thumb I've gone by before is one level above what you'll be wearing to work. Is that pretty standard?

I know it varies from job to job and I hope to be interviewing for lab jobs.

Any tips?

I just wore the same as I'd wear for a UK interview .. suit, and smart shoes.

Probably sounds daft, but I felt more confident dressed too smartly, than worrying that I'd not dressed up enough. As it was, I was a little smarter than those interviewing me, but not by a great amount, and got offered the job so guess was OK?

I guess a lot depends on the job you are going for - shirt and suit is probably OTT for a cashiers job :laugh

I agree with Jon-and-Lou. Definitely a suit and smart shoes for an interview. You can never be over-dressed for an interview... anyway, it's better than being under-dressed! While your at the interview, you can look around the office to see what the dress code is or ask the interviewer.

I just wear a smartish pair of trousers or skirt and top. I usually wear heels to an interview, but as they're not really appropriate shoes for lab work I'd probably go for a clean and not so casual pair of flats, ie not ballet slippers or whatever. I don't own a suit or formal jacket, so that wouldn't be an option for me.
