Help .. not getting any joy out of our solicitor - guess he's busy with clients.
We are due to get the keys for our NZ house tomorrow. Real estate agents have just phoned as the vendors aren't going to be able to move all their stuff out tomorrow.
Where do we stand? Can we insist on them completely vacating the property - especially as they dictated the settlement date?
cheers,
Lou

I think there should be a clause in the contract about monetary penalties for late settlement.
We got about a grand back from that!

We bought a house 2 weeks ago. we were told that although the house was ours on the Friday which was the settlement day, it is very common for the vendors to move out on Saturday, because this is when people have help to move from family. It seemed odd to me, but apparently this is the norm over here.

Oooppps ... Oh well, got a reply from the solicitor (or should I call him Lawyer?)Anyway, he'd been chasing the vendors and they shall be all out by 2pm today :raebanana
AND just heard yesterday, that our container will be delivered on Monday morning ... got butterflies now, imagining what all our stuff is like - hopefully not too broken or mouldy :uhoh

Janey - are you after our solicitor? If so, I used Philip Redmond from Corcoran French - they have offices in Chch and Kaiapoi.
Move went well thanks .. although shattered today!

How exciting
Hopefully there wont be any mold problems. you would not have packed damp items.
The only damage we suffered was heat damage. the white plastic trim bits on the microwave and dishwasher etc yellowed in the heat. And we found two or three oddly shaped candles.. good for a laugh.

We had quite a few of our clothes with spots of mildrew .. very odd as it only affected some stuff.
Table leg got broken, antique coffee pot handle and some parcel tape marks on some furniture but that was it.
Not too bad really considering it's journey!
