Thank you to everyone that helped me along the way. In a few days i will be off to dunedin to get a bach or something similar and a job. any one know the best way to find some work, like a cafe or somewhere to meet ppl? let me know pls.

don't know where you are staying but if its a backpackers (Foley towers is good) they can give you advise on that and you get to meet people there too.
